Who cares what his numbers are in Brooklyn?
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

I know a lot of people think the Heat should go for "whales" every offseason, but I think one year of consistency in the roster could really make the Heat a prime destination for 2018 FA's.
Whether he stays or goes is probably up to Pat Riley. If Pat presents him with a good offer as soon as free agency starts, I think he takes it. I don't think he'd make the same mistake this year that he made last year of waiting for more money ... only to end up with a lot less.

With what cap space? TJ's money kicks in. Like 20 million.

I've been saying to trade the guy. There has to be a team desperate to reach another level after the FA signing period is done or at the trade deadline next February.
Plus, there's always S&T options available. This could include trading Dragic or Whiteside if the player is an upgrade, or any combination of salary with other signed players.
To get rid of his contract would end up costing us more in any trade. We're stuck with him. We're better off hoping he improves again, but I don't really see it. I think he needs more consistency than he needs numbers.
Hell I just hope we don't overreact to a contract year and overpay Waiters.

Teams have taken on worse deals in the past.
It's not like TJ is a bad player either. He's just a little overpaid.
There's always a team desperate for making one more move at the end of the summer or at the trade deadline. I don't think the Heat would have to give up much else other than TJ to such a team.
Teams took on worse deals but likely with draft picks and/or some young talent.
I'm not saying TJ is bad either. But he's making starter money for 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists per36. Eh.
I know that of his contract were spread evenly, it would be 12.5 million per year which is basically highway robbery for those numbers, imo. But that isnt the case. It was a really big gamble to take the poison pill. I hope tj lives up to it. I don't blame him at all.

Hope he does well on his new team. I'm expecting him to regress a bit though.

16/2/4 and doesn't finish the season as a starter.
