Pretty predictably, even if they already know, Riley and Spo refuse to specify exactly where Bam will play. They simply keep pointing out his versatility while saying he was drafted because the team was "lacking depth in the front court", which we know consists of small forward, power forward and center.
If Riley and Spo were projecting Bam exclusively at center, they could have easily said "the team is lacking depth at center". They've never identified Justise solely as a small forward, Rich as a shooting guard or Tyler as a point guard either because they pride themselves on having players who are interchangeable.
JJ just had the best season of his career because Spo decided to utilize him as a gumbo point-forward-center hybrid.
It's pretty fair to assume Bam will play minutes at both power forward and center. Particularly after Riley made sure to inform reporters, during his draft night press conference, that Bam hit 30 of 50 threes at the team workout, which even Calipari promises he has in his game...“Right now everybody is stunned at how Bam shoots the ball,” he said. “I must have had 10 calls. Like, ‘I didn’t realize he shot the ball this way.’ But they also didn’t realize Karl shot the ball that way and you also didn’t realize that Anthony shot the ball the way he does. And so you would think following this thing how we do it, they all have to share, they all have to give up something to each other to be able to do what they’re doing here.”

...If Bam is able to shoot jumpers with enough consistency to keep defenses honest, he'll absolutely get minutes on the floor with Hassan this season.

Never implied there was anything wrong with him playing center. I'm saying Riley and Spo wouldn't be this giddy over drafting a backup center. Riley wouldn't even hint at mentioning Shawn Kemp, regardless of context, if a limited skill set, backup center is all he saw.
Now whether the"wow factor" and "wow workout" Riley and Spo each used, as reference to the first time they got to see Bam work face to face, was a true glimpse into what his game can ultimately be is a different story; but they clearly have high expectations.
