Sounds like a rift within the organization. Spoelstra on the way out? Wow.

I hope not. What is the rift about? Rotations or play style?

the article says it's pace being too fast for Riley's liking. nothing Spo can't change there so it's probably nothing to see here. Riley reminiscing the good old times keeping the scores down to 80s

I thought Pat meant the game will slow down for Winslow and Bam. To slow the pace of the game we would need excellent defense and despite our best efforts, we do not have that type of defense to slow the game down.
You exemplary defensive talent. Whiteside has not shown to be that type of elite anchor, not yet IMO.
Maybe we get there this year but I do not see it. We don't have the collective BBall IQ for it.

Maybe you're right Sgt P. I like the idea of slowing the game down a little bit anyway though. Flying around on defense and going high pace on offense, it's exhausting.. it's cool everything clicks, but it only happens in spurts unless you're GSW level talents and IQs.
But I see what you're saying P.

why not both.but yeah this team can only play a faster game in spurts so a better solution is to grind it out no matter how ugly it gets, what's most important its a W ya'allSgt P wrote:I hope not. What is the rift about? Rotations or play style?

Re: Pat Riley suggests slower Heat pace, praises Winslow, Adebayo
We all know Spo experiments the first half of the season. He gonna try different lineups and different schemes all the way up to near All-Star break. Before we start describing pace wrong. Rather your pace is fast or slow, it has no barring on how good the team is. Pace is only important to the team itself. You find the Pace that the team plays best at, the opposing team pace is irrelevant. I can have a slower offensive pace and my offense can still be far greater than the team with the faster pace. People get so caught up on GSW and dont understand it take less time to chunk up a three than to drive to the basket. So by nature GSW pace will be faster. Now if the Heat offense plays more efficient then they can set on defense. However, its still so early. They are still trying to figure out how can everyone contribute most effectively

No thanks! I want to play fast. I don't want to tune into a Heat game and have a baseball game break out.

We could play a slow down in and out game if we actually had an actual post player. I think Riley got enamored watching how the Spurs played with Aldridge and was going down memory lane. What we need to do is go back to playing like we did the second half of last year. If we want to play clock management half court basketball we also have the wrong PG to do that.

m2 but pat is suggesting otherwise so lets see how it goes.but if you think about it playing at a slower pace should benefit players like bam and bustice and even whiteside since he wont get as gassed as with playing at a faster ratecontract wrote:eddieheatfan wrote:why not both.but yeah this team can only play a faster game in spurts so a better solution is to grind it out no matter how ugly it gets, what's most important its a W ya'allSgt P wrote:I hope not. Playing slower does benefit most of our team except for the main engine which is Dragic. Maybe Dragic has to bite the bullet and do what's best for the team. Something i'm sure he would be willing to do. But then again he has struggled in the past during half court sets. Maybe playing off the ball with Waiters handling more half court ball duties solves the trick. Problem is who knows how long Waiters ankle is going to hold up.

Slower pace doesnt mean slow. lol If I recall the best pace for us last year was around 97 shots. We are currently at 102 shots per game. So we are WELL over the pace we played best at last year. So Pat may be exactly right. We need to slow down.

TBH, we played way slower last season
Post All-Star pace - 97.3
Season pace - 97.7
Current pace 101.3
Also, 97-98 is the most comfortable pace for Dragic, his Phoenix team in 13-14 season had 98.1
