Winslow's Development

Always have to remind myself how young this guy is. He's 22 years old, and honestly it should be around the time he starts figuring it out as a player.
Over the last few weeks, I've been very impressed with the player I've seen. When he shoots 3s I'm expecting them to drop, when he handles the ball I feel comfy knowing a good play will be made.
Does anybody else feel good about this guy? Or am I just seeing things?
Took a while but Winslow is showing to me he is in this league to stay. Hope he keeps it going and this confidence builds, I feel Wade has an effect on him.
What do we think about Winslow, is he finally becoming the player we hoped?

His per36 rebounding rate is good (8rpg) but he needs to be able to pick up his scoring (only 11ppg in per36). He defends well and gives energy/effort, which is something I like because at least you can count on that when shots aren't falling. But I'd like to see him with a more aggressive mentality on offense. And he's gotta be able to finish easy layups, which I don't doubt he will (and it looks like he's improving in that aspect each game).

Richardson kind of broke out over a stretch of 20 games beginning at the turn of the year, Winslow's stretch is going on about 14 games now. I've seen enough to say that there should be an open competition for the starting SF spot next year, assuming neither one, or both get moved over the summer. Who does what in the playoffs will probably go a long way towards determining that as well.

he is improving baby steps, seems like wade has been a positive mentor since he arrived.sometimes younger players needs to look for someone to get inspired to do better.

I think Richardson has overachieved as a small forward. I think he’s too weak and gets bodied by a lot of other 3’s and ends up fouling them a ton. On the flip side, he guards 1&2’s sensationally.
You all know I’m a Winslow believer. I think he’s got another leap or two to make offensively once he finishes better around the basket, develops his post game, and continues to improve as a facilitator and ball handler.
Not sure if he’s ever going to be more than mediocre as a ft shooter - if that. The same could be said for his mid range jumper. Those weaknesses might remain for a while.
Regardless, I’m still extremely optimistic about him and feel like we’re gonna be really happy with him and j especially considering how much we’re gonna be paying for their contributions.
That’s a hell of a wing combo to throw out in this era of the nba. I think long term Winslow is the starting 3 and j rich is the starting 2.

I rather have Richardson and Winslow as the swing position combo together than Waiters and Winslow. I agree JRich is playing out of position at the 3. The only reason we are able to get away with it is because of Whiteside compensate for the lack of size at the 3 and the 4 when JJ is there. I do not believe Winslow and Waiters can coexist on the court together. With Waiters on the court Winslow gonna have to be better than knocking down 0.8 three pointer a game. I am very please to see Winslow improving. I said it earlier in the season he needed to take less shot attempt to improve and work his way back up. He lowered his attempts and improved his percentage. Dont know if he will ever be good as a high volume shooter. Even thou he has gotten better in the limited areas he can score, he still is very limited.
Back to the idea of Winslow and JRich combo. Moving JRich to the 2 should make him a better defender because now his length is an advantage. And his defender will be smaller which should help him offensively as well. JRich likes the ball on the wing, and Winslow likes the ball at the top of the key or the one corner (still sucks from the other corner). They do not get into each other way. His defense is still slacking on where I expect it to be. I am expecting Winslow to start challenging for the all defensive team. Defense is where is talent is at. That is where he has the highest ceiling IMO. JRich can challenge for that award as well. If those two can get to that level than you have something really special.

If Winslow doesn’t fix the arc on his shot he will never be a real threat. No one shoots the ball that damn high idk who told him this was needed. He needs to watch films all day of James Harden and how he shoots. You won’t see the ball disappearing from the TV when he shoots it I can tell you that much.
His drives are strong but his finish attempts are very very weak and not fluid at all. His floaters look horrendous and yet I believe his floaters aren’t even shot as high in the air as his jumper. Justice game is on the upswing but he looks far from a finish product.
Has no midrange game. Its all either a stand still corner 3 or a drive and layup attempt. Needs to add much more game to his arsenal. Feels like he is taking baby steps improving
His handles are not good at all. Has no go to moves, haven’t seen him cross one guy up yet. He dunks the ball once a season and it’s usually a highlight dunk. He can’t play PG with these weak handles. If he doesn’t improve he will just be another 3nD random with a not so good shot.
After next year he will be a RFA. Some dumb team will offer him the max. It would be wise to let him go at that price. If Justice stays around the same next season and doesn’t improve by LEAPS and BOUNDS then anything more than what Jrich got is a massive overpay and gamble.
His shooting percentage may be up, but just the way it looks I can easily tell it’s not sustainable. Fix that ugly ass shot. You know how hard it is to have an ugly jumper as a lefty??? Get with the program.

The three players he is compared to, from an upside perspective, are Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.
A look at their PER36 at similar ages:
Leonard (21yr - 2nd season): 13.7ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.8apg, 1.9spg, 0.6bpg, 1.2tpg, 49.4%fg, 37.4% 3fg (1.3 per), 82.5%ft (2.1 per), 16.4% USG
Butler (23yr - 2nd season): 11.9ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.9apg, 1.3spg, 0.5bpg, 1.0tpg, 46.7%fg, 38.1% 3fg (0.8 per), 80.3%ft (3.2 per), 14.6% USG
Green (23yr - 2nd season): 10.2ppg, 8.2rpg, 3.0apg, 2.0spg, 1.4bpg, 1.8tpg, 40.7%fg. 33.3% 3fg (1.1 per), 66.7%ft (1.6 per), 14.8% USG
Winslow's PER36 this season (21yr - 3rd season):
11.2ppg, 8.0rpg, 3.2apg, 1.2spg, 0.8bpg, 1.6tpg, 42.3%fg, 40.7% 3fg (1.1 per), 64.1%ft (1.4 per), 16.0% USG.
I get that PER36 is not the best indicator, and I'm not saying he's ever gonna be as good as any of these three, but the figures are comparable at similar ages.
I don't think his offensive game will ever develop to be anywhere near Butler or Leonard, but no one saw Butler or Leonard's game evolving to this point either.

He can do himself a favor next season and add the midrange to his game. His FT % is also disgusting. Workout with Wade, he needs better Needs finishing moves.
