Spoiler:
It just about loses all of its' authenticity after Will's mother loses hers; Her bemusement in the first season was the conviction that sold the whole story. While I'm an advocate of believing that most humans are capable of tolerating more than they perceive that they can: anyone who's gone through what Joyce presumably has would, at the very least, experience some type of solipsistic paranoia. I mean she might be a bigger sinew of the show's lifeline than those kids and her characters just getting lost in the story, szn by szn. Hopper's become a total mockery himself by the final season as well- his relationship with El, while it might be cynical to say, gave off some pedo vibes(just wasn't natural) and every thing else about his character(the SHIRT in the 3rd szn) just seemed forced.
If Joyce doesn't show any physical/emotion/mental drawbacks in the next season, then I'm not sure what they're doing with the character
