That's not an excuse, that's a fact. Taking 2 years off and then jumping in the cage with a top fighter is a great way to get dismantled. Spending a lot of that time training for another sport just makes it worse. Khabib may simply be the better fighter, but last night wasn't the way to determine that.
If the UFC was a serious organization, Conor would have been made to prove that he was back in top form before being allowed back in the cage vs a top fighter. But Dana White sells spectacles, not great fights.

Found out that an old school friend of mines plays for the Marlins, I would become a fan if I cared for Baseball at all. Finta' get a jersey tho, he used to always talk about playing in the MLB as kids

Boxing wise, I would.
You have to understand the sheer volume of injuries UFC fighters face after their fights. Taking that much time off would not only do wonders for their body but mentality would be clear.
Need a perfect example? GSP. Hasnt fought in 4 years, comes back to face Bisping in the middleweight bought, who GSP does not contend in and choked him out cold. Yes, before you mention the differences between Bisping/Khabib, Its a big one. But it doesnt change the fact that GSP hasnt fought in 4 years, and jumps up a weight class to face a champion nonetheless.
This fight that happened last night definitely needed to happen, it wouldnt make any sense not too. 2 years is not a whole lot of time for UFC fighters to take off, as some other champions themselves sometimes fight once a year. Tyron Woodley, who hasnt fought in a year dismantled Darren Till (Up and coming hungry beast)

For me personally, I was surprised at Khabib holding his own against Conor while standing up. This part shocked me. Didn't expect Khabib to get a clean one in like that.
