How optimistic are you going forward? **POLL**

Post#1 » by RexBoyWonder » Mon Feb 18, 2019 3:07 pm

Looking at our cuurent assets, young players, owed picks, upcoming free agents in the league, etc - how long do you believe it will take for us to reach the Eastern finals again?

Also if you have the insight :

1.Any names we should focus on?

2.Do you see a particular path for us getting there? Trading for player X, signing player Y..clearing cap space for year 20**..

3.Any particular strategy? Free agency/tanking/developing/playing style etc

I'll be surprised if we make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs before 2023.

Grow organically before adding any roleplayers via free agency

Our cap space situation is so bad, I don't know how we'll get out of it any time soon.

1) Any one that is a top 10 player. Need at least one to win a championship.

2) As of now I don’t see a way for the Heat to get a top 10 player.

3) Tanking is one way to get a top 10 player, Free agency is another, and trading is a third. At this point, none of those strategies seem to be the plan.

Somewhat (hopefully) Realistic names I would focus on in the next few years, in free agency or trades :

Karl-Anthony Towns
Bradley Beal
Aaron Gordon
Devin Booker
Damian Lillard

We badly need that type of #1 option to take pressure off of everyone else and let the role players settle in their roles.

At this point I am scared that Miami will continue making stupid decisions. I have lost faith until they clear the books and start drafting. What if after 2019 Dragic and WS expire seemingly freeing up over $40 mil in cap but there are no star free agents the Heat want to sign, are they gonna resign Dragic and WS to long term cheap deals? I would not be ok with this. We need to start over a clean slate! Let them expire and walk then the following year kiss goodbye Dion Kelly and JJ. THEN go into 2021 with $100 mil plus to spend and rebuild this team.

We better not sign these bums again. I don’t care if we give Dragic and WS the goddam mid level. I want new fresh young faces.

Tear it down. Everyone can go. Yes Bam, JRich and Justise as well. Whatever it takes. There is no future with anyone on this roster.

23-24.

I don't believe you can build a contender without homegrown star. Right now we don't have one.

1. Stars who were drafted after 2012.

2. Get a stud from the draft

3. Get a stud from the draft

8 posters have us in the eastern conference finals by or before 2021-2022? Obviously all of us haven't had the optimism beat out of us yet.

Well, we'll have alot of cap space in 2021-2022, unless we add more bad contracs in 2020-2021.

The top free agents will be :

31 YO Damian Lillard

29 YO Rudy Gobert

28 YO Bradley Beal

26 YO Giannis Antetokounmpo

29 YO Victor Oladipo

28 YO Otto Porter Jr.

30 YO C.J. McCollum

31 YO Gordon Hayward

If we can get a Lilard/Beal combo going, or a Giannis/Oladipo duo going...we might have something if our young guys progress and we add some real talent in the next 2 drafts.

Greek Freak yes ... everyone else, no. Nothing will cripple you faster than signing high end free agents that aren't superstars to superstar contracts. Those contracts consume big chunks of the cap for 4 years at a time. If you sign two of those guys, > 60% of your cap is gone, and you still have no superstar to get you to the championship.

And absolutely no big money free agents over 30. :noway:

I think the 2021 FA might come to be a bit of a disappointment. From Beal's and Dame recent comments, both seem likely to resign with their teams. I don't think Oladipo will move either, Pacers took a chance on him I see him remaining loyal to that team.
Giannis is the biggest prize but noone really knows how he thinks. He said he's not into super teams but if the Bucks fail to make it to the finals next 2 seasons who knows he might change his mind.
By 2021 either him or AD will be the NBA best players. That's why we should make him our #1 target knowing AD is laker bound. I don't see Giannis making into FA, I think if he wants he'd likely get traded. This is why tanking this season and next makes sense. It would allow us to stock up on our trade assets in case Giannis becomes available. Next season will be interesting, the whole Giannis FA speculation shoulf start.
Giannis at 26 would be the biggest FA coup since prime Lebron

Looking at our current talent and the upcoming free agents in the next few years, I don't we can afford to just do nothing in the name of waiting for the perfect player.

We're not getting prime Lebron again, so who are the best player we can get? You aim for those and hope it work out for you.

Lilard is older but he's a stud, a leader, and will age well.
Bradley Beal can be good enough to be the second player on a championship team, I'd take him for the max if I could.
Giannis is a no branier but a long shot.

Gobert im on the fence about. good player, but will probably pass and hope I can find a cheaper player that brings 80% of what he brings.

Oladipo I love, but it all depends how he comes back from injury.

Otto Porter, C.J. McCollum and Gordon Hayward - I'll pass on. They'll be our best players (sad) but they're going to be overpaid and they're not good enough to drag us where we want to go.

So My wish list in order :

1. Giannis - (very unlikley IMO)

2. Beal
3. Lilard

4. Oladipo

5. Gobert
