I'd have no major issue with us checking to see what the price is for AD, but the cost is going to be high to acquire him. They more than likely wouldn't be interested in Dragic and Whiteside if they opt into their player options. I can't see them wanting Ryan Anderson back, nor have much interest in JJ. They might be open to Olynyk or Waiters as make weights in any deal, but I suspect the players they would want in exchange for AD are Winslow, J-Rich and Bam. Then they would likely want our 2019 first round pick, 2020 if we can trade it (?) or 2023.

AD is a really good player, but if we are going to trade away our young trio and current/future first round picks in order to acquire him, then we aren't really going to leave ourselves in a position to compete. I guess if Dragic and Whiteside opt in then maybe we can Trott out a line up of Dragic, Waiters, Jones, AD, Whiteside or Dragic, Waiters, Jones, Olynyk, AD - but is that a title contending team? Not really. I don't think it would be significantly better than retaining our existing core paired with our veteran players.

Now I'm not saying we shouldn't pursue AD because he's clearly a really good player. A player a franchise can build around. However, the best teams in this league have multiple all stars and deep rosters, I just don't see it being a wise idea to get rid of what assets we have here and leave the cupboard bare. I would rather build around and feature Winslow, J-Rich and Bam; use our first round pick on an upside talent like we did when we drafted Bam; and wait for 2020 when our cap space frees up. Maybe look to see if we can find any takers for Dragic and/or Whiteside if they opt in; and then see if we can get anything in return for JJ, Olynyk and Waiters because if we can move them then we'll have even more cap space for 2020. Any assets we can get in return like first and second round picks, or talent with upside, can be useful in rebuilding a team around a young and exciting core.

If this happens, Iggie has to step down as Mod, Chalms step down as a Pokemon fan and Doc surrender his license.
