Lakers have no picks.

Butler will make us stronger players in 2021 than we'd have been with J-Rich. So no. Having him is better for the development of the young guys as well, more competitive team.

We’ll have a 32 year old Butler making $36 million eating away at the cap space we could use for younger all stars. If Bam develops, he’ll be asking for 15-20 million that offseason too. Maybe Riley can pull something out of his ass, but seems like a lateral move. We’ll see.

You can put off resigning the younger players till the free agents are signed, it'll just be their cap hold eating into some of the space till then.

Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a long time since I followed contracts and salary cap, but by that offseason Bam will already be playing with new contract, since more than likely, he would’ve signed an extension the year prior.

If we learned something from the trade deadline last season, it's that teams who are willing to go all-in to make a run can acquire some very solid assets midseason to piece together a strong playoff roster and contend. I'm fine with trying to replicate the Toronto/Milwaukee model of adding proven complimentary vets to support your lead guy (granted Butler is not on the level of a Kawhi or Giannis, but still)

What you guys don't get is that a depleted team with just Butler and Westbrook wins nothing PLUS Westbrook takes you out of 2021 free agency.

A team with Westbrook has a chance because he is on the the team.

This team as constructed wins nothing. Leaving 2021 FA without a legit free agent still gets you no where. 2021 isn't a sure thing. People resign with teams, get injured, or straight up signs somewhere else.

Imagine 2021 comes and Jimmy is by himself , Bam and Winslow are not all stars and The Greek Freak says “ I’m staying in Milwaukee “ Oof

Oh well, gutting our youth and asking for way to much.

Plus never like the fit with 2 ball dominant players.

OH WELL.

in my head it seemed nice but rational thinking, nope.

They wanted picks... not much we can do. Not only do we not have picks to trade, but trading him to us would of make their picks worse.

It’s a bidding war we could not have won without giving up everything. I’m happy we didn’t.

I’m also surprised OKC took Paul, but that’s another story.

I'm not sure if there is much we can do to get better this season. Just have to let the young guys play.

that feeling when you just saved yourself 170,000,000 over the next 4 years.

While as "fun" it would've been to see Jimmy and RW..I dont think you had the pieces around them to compete...and you have your young guys. Miami will always be a threat for high quality FA's which is nice for you.

twas entertaining reading this thread the last few days

Imagine trading for Jimmy Butler and then have the owner sign Wiggins for the max and expecting Butler to sign the next year for substantially less then Wiggins. That's how you miss the playoffs 14 out of the last 15 years.

Fax are stil fax, Russ is still overrated and Rok's traded Old, expensive and could shoot, for relatively young, expensive and can't shoot

Hopefully playing in a system and with a top 5 player affects him greatly

Deserved the MVP that year though, imo. Russ was something else that year, an outlier year for him in terms of his outside shot and clutch performances. Advanced metrics all favored him over Harden too.

6th seed, likely doesn't get the award if it isn't for the 'triple double' platitude. Haven't checked the advanced metrics bit, would need link for that

If CP3 was 31, I'd consider trading our expirings for him. But he's 34.
