Lmao I love the timing of this "making it known"; right after hotel arrangements are announced and right before teams report

It's like a proactive declaration of intent to tamper lol

Apparently this recent rehashing of Dipo + Giannis came from an article from The Athletic. Curious as to what the article detailed IF anything.

Looking at that 2021 FA list btw, it could be a great opportunity to bring in some serious vet talent/leadership in on the cheap if we are able to create a strong title contender. These 3 in particular will be 35 & probably looking for a great environment and a ring.

Man, that'd be sick. Both guys (Isaac and Fox) could be off the market as soon as this offseason though. TBH, I'd maybe take that over Oladipo and Giannis.

First reason being I don't have much love for Oladipo. He's a good player. He's not a max player and he's coming off a bad injury. Will be nearly 30 when we would sign him. Ugh. If the org loves him, they know better than me, and I'd trust them that they're making the right choice, but I wouldn't even leave my seat.

Second reason being that I really like Fox, and Isaac's defense (god level) and attractive offensive game gives me hope that he'll figure it out and be damn near a unicorn. Fox, Isaac, Bam, Herro, Robinson, Nunn, Jalen Smith, etc. That's as exciting a young core as you're going to get. If those two hit the market, we could conceivably offer them both max/near max contracts.

Finally, Giannis has talked a lot about loyalty, and shown some real heart for his Bucks. To be truthful, I'd like to see him stay to some degree, and go down swinging for his first and only NBA team. Bucks fans deserve it after years of misery.

If we poach Giannis then they need to rebrand the team the Milwaukee Cucks

Fair to assume it's Giannis or bust. The only caveat is if you somehow got Anthony Davis in 2020, which seems extremely unlikely.

I do wonder about the spacing issues with Butler, Giannis and Bam in the same lineup. I guess it's much less of an issue if you have Herro and Robinson on the wings though.

With all this craziness going on, it's really a guessing game as to what the fantastic class of 2017 will want to do. Get security ASAP, or wait and let the team have more signing power in free agency for team building.

Our cap table, again, for reference:

That's the ideal scenario I believe, I'm still trying to figure out how the salary cap effects players who are due for a contract extension this offseason. If Bam signs a max extension this offseason does it go by the numbers available in the 2020 salary cap or does it go by the 2021 salary cap?

Meaning would it benefit Bam to wait until 2021 to sign so he can maximise his first year dollar amount because it will likely be reduced this offseason? Also what do the insurance deals the 2017 players are negotiating for cover them for? I assume its to protect them if they get injured during the return to play at the end of this season but the fact that an injury would effect the money they could receive in an extension I would assume it would have to cover the money of a potential extension too right? Possibly meaning Bam would have the capability of waiting till 2021 without the risk of getting injured next season and missing out on his extension.

Does anyone know anything more about this stuff?

Really curious about this as well. The noted desire by Bam to cover himself in anticipation of an extension really has me wondering how the Heat are going to be able to pull off having Bam wait until 2021

Why not just sign Giannis and bring back Josh Richardson if he opts out

Reddick would be interesting option. I believe he recently said on his Podcast he wants to play with Jimmy again at some point. He would be an great addition to mentor Herro or in the event Herro is moved for someone like Beal.

Riddick makes sense, especially to help mentor Herro. Going to have space as wings move on and he's past getting paid big money

I think getting longer wings to compliment Herro/Robinson's deficiencies are more important than bringing in a redundant player. If anything, bring guys like Ray Allen in to mentor them over the offseason.

Also, personally I would like to see us moving away from training Herro to be a Redick/Korver type player. I think he can be so much more than that. Let the kid hang around creating players like Wade/Jimmy/Timmy

mentorship really isn't about mimicking playstyle. It’s about learning about reading defenses & offenses from high IQ guys, professionalism and locker room leadership. Herro will become the player he’s destined to become regardless of who’s brain he’s picking.

That being said, you always want an all time shooter on a contender. Bam Jimmy and whoever else we want to sign will always need spacers to maximize their games. All you need to do is look at how many shooters we had around the big 3 as a reminder. Or just look at the Lakers & Bucks right now.

Miami Heat Regular Season Thread Vol. Iggy

Post#1315 » by ThaFranchize84 » Wed Jun 24, 2020 1:44 am

With the Heat seemingly interested in players like Oladipo and having players like Nunn (unless he is moved for Oladipo before 2021 F/A), Herro, and Robinson does anyone think that Butler’s future position with the Heat might be point guard? I think he played it for the Sixers during their playoff run. Butler’s shooting range has been somewhat limited and he does help create a lot of opportunities for other guys in our offense. It also helps you don’t really need a traditional PG if you have big guys like Bam, Olynk etc that are good passers.

I’m just trying to figure out how we can have Jimmy Giannis and Olidipo plus pay Bam and DJJ.

no way we keep DJJ in that scenario.

DJJ is definitely gone. The question is if we can retain Herro in 1 of those hypothetical S&T scenarios. My guess is we’d lose Nunn and Herro.

Add Duncan & KZ to that core you mentioned and that’s a title favorite anyways. hard to complain.

I think we lose DJJ this summer. Someone is going to offer him a contract that Miami won’t come near to offering.

DJJ is an okay player but I have a hard time understanding why Miami fans give him so much credit ...I am Miami fan and I would never want him starting in any team I have ...plus he has to develop so much that I can't even imagine him ever being a big part in a good team, nothing against youDJJ! (idea... work on being a defensive stopper)
