I can't be the only one who is reminded of that playoff run by this playoff run by the Heat.

Are you sure about that? I remember 60,000+ fans for the World Series games at Joe Robbie Stadium. Or was that '97? Or both? Still an MLB record I believe(playoffs and regular season). A very ironic record.

I hope so. The run does seem quite similar, though the Marlins had some tough series vs the Cubs. Even taking down the Yankees. Lakers would be the NBA equivalent.

I was thinking of the 2011 run through playoffs how both the Bulls and Celtics were so confident against the Big 3 because of regular season success and Miami beat em both in 5 when it counted including that lockdown defense on the Bulls in that last game

This team doesn’t have the big names, but it’s playing like that 2011 HEAT team. Hopefully no choke job in the finals this time.

I think what he is trying to say is he did not start paying attention to the Marlins until he thought they could win it all and the same is with the Heat.

This run is going the exact same route as the 2011 Mavs, not the 2011 Heat.

Everyone was expecting Kobe vs Lebron in the finals, unless the Celtics or the Bulls could upset the Heat.

But then, a perennially underrated superstar, with a great center, a very skilled veteran PG, a great bench and great coaching, beat Kobe, Lebron, Durant and everyone in his way.

You can start the comparison all the way from last summer, when the Lakers and the Clippers were making super teams, while the Heat quietly added Jimmy, same thing with the Heat creating a super team in 2011 and the Mavs quietly signing Dirk to a new contract and adding Tyson Chandler.

Heat championship is written in the stars, just like that 2011 championship was.

No, in the sense that we aren't going to shred apart our roster after winning the championship.

No disrespect to the Mavs, but Tyson Chandler was not a great center. He was great that series, but that Mavs team won through sheer will over talent. They wanted it more. Miami thought they were entitled to win, dating back to when Bosh complained about Spo pushing them too hard. The Heat turned things around the following 2 years, somewhat. But the Heat should have gone 4-0 in the finals during Lebrons tenure here.

I don’t think Mavs were much of an underdog that year like the Heat have been this year though. If I remember correctly they had the highest payroll in the league that season, almost double that of the Heat.
