Miami takes a 3-game losing streak into Sacramento to play a Kings team with dynamic playmaking, good shooting, and (for the first time in ages) decent defense.

Miami lost to the Jazz (respectable), Clippers (without 4 starters), and Golden State Midgets.

Miami is 42-22 versus the Kings. We squeaked by them in Miami on Jan 30. We are 14-17 versus the Kings in Sacramento and have lost the 3 last 3 games there. We've never one in their shiny new arena. After we beat them in Miami, they went on a four game winning streak against the Pelicans, Clippers, Celtics, and Nuggets, but they have now lost 4 in a row, all at home, against the sixers, magic, grizzlies, and nets. Their last game was Monday, the night Miami played the Clippers. If they fail to beat the Heat they will not win a single game on a 5-game homestand. The Kings losing 5 in-a-row at home is exceedingly unlikely.

Kings are 13th in scoring: 113.9 ppg. Opponents score over 119 ppg, which is worst in the league. Maybe we'll get 100?
Miami is 27th in scoring with 106.6 ppg. Opponents score 109 ppg on the Heat, which is pretty good (7th best).

Miami shoots 3's at 35% (24th in the league) but we are tenth in attempts. We take 3.5 more 3 pt attempts than the king per game. Kings shoot at almost 37% though.

Miami is last in the league in rebounds. Sacramento is 24th. Kings are midtable in offensive rebound Heat, of course, are last in the league. Kings get 3 more Offensive Rebounds per game than Miami.

MIami & Sacramento are tied in steals near the bottom of the league.

In free throws, Kings get a few more a game, but Miami's free throw percentage is higher.

----

expected lineup: Kendrick Nunn/Jimmy Butler/Duncan Robinson/Kelly Olynyk/Bam Adebayo

If my desire to win made any difference to the team, we would scorch these f@@k###rs. Unfortunately, desire to win is rare at the moment on the court, and I'm not sure why. We used to be the team of no excuses. No longer.

There is a general malaise, lack of ambition, and complacency.

In Brasil, we say "a esperança é a última coisa que morre" -- Let's hope a win rekindles our season to life. We are playing for pride now. To some, maybe that doesn't matter.

I am counting on that changing now:

Injury report (as of tonight): Barnes, Holmes, & Metu are out for the Kings. Miami won't have Silva, Dragic, or Bradley (all in MIami) as well as Meyers Leonard (finished for the season).

Meyers 2020-2021 stats: 10 points 7 rebounds 2 assists. Not per game, total stats for the season. Dude got $10 million for that. How did no one see that coming? He had a Mion ankle injury.

Nothing to do in Sacramento though (esp during covid), so chances are they might play more basketball tonight. Losing to the Kings would be embarrassing but it would be worse for the Kings to lose to us (from their fans perspective.) The Heat cast no ominous shadow at all anymore, and the Kings haven't won in Sacramento in a long time.

Hard to muster any energy and enthusiasm when the team doesn’t either.

I don't actually think we should fire Spo right now, but dude needs to do some soul searching. I get that there's a specific style that he wants to play, but we simply don't have the personnel so Spo needs to use that big brain of his to make some adjustments. And a willingness from Spo to reshape his approach would also give us a lot more flexibility and opportunity regarding midseason trades/acquisitions. Sometimes you just gotta work with what's available rather than stubbornly trying to force your rigid system where it doesn't fit
