Gabe Vincent + Max Strus appreciation thread

If tonight's game is any indication, both Gabe and Max were sac'd for Dipo.

Both guys were great for us and I hope they have a future with us, especially Max, who was awesome as a starter.

Pay your respects here.

Both these guys should get minutes ahead of Trashcan Robinson. That one dimensional bum sucks, he's the only bad contract we have on the team.

Always believed in Max, very happy for the turnaround for Gabe. I'm hoping Spo is just experimenting and tinkering and all those **** Duncan minutes are not the plan going forward.

Props to Gabe Vincent who was unanimously doubted on this board. He has stepped up in ways probably only the coaching staff and he thought was possible.

Strus has shown an offensive game that is much more rounded than just a pure shooter. I'd like to see him get a more consistent role, but I am not sure that is going to happen in Miami.

Strus should be eating Duncan's minutes. Gabe is the third string guard. Any foul trouble and he can slide right in and still be effective.

“Big shout out to Max and Gabe, who have been playing really well,” Oladipo said, unprompted, before walking away from the microphone. “For them to sacrifice their minutes tonight, I know that’s not easy. So I really appreciate them for that.”

Both players deserve respect and admiration for the way they've grown their respective games this season. No matter what happens this offseason with Caleb Martin and Victor Oladipo, Miami has some good dudes in tow for the long run in Gabe Vincent and Max Strus, two guys I really like for this team.

I'd rather see Max bombing threes out there than watch Dipo ISOs. But maybe Dipo will surprise me.

3pt specialists are a wild card. If they're hot, you pretty much win the game. If not, they don't give you much.

There was a game recently where both Strus and Duncan were cold from 3 that made me realize, I'd rather have Caleb's consistency and multi-faceted skillset at the cost of 3pt shooting (and Caleb's not a bad 3pt shooter; 40% on 1.6 attempts).

My only concern with Dipo is if he returns to old self or at least close to it + good defense. If he does, his positives will outweigh anything we lose from 3pt shooting. If not, I'd rather bet on Max Strus and allow for his defense and other facets to develop, which was on display against the Wolves (7reb and good-enough defense).

Watching Klay Thompson play yesterday reminded me of how 3 point shooting opens the floor for everyone else. I don't know enough about Dipo to make a call but if he bricks threes yet dominates the paint all we would have would be duplication of Butler and Bam. We could lose valuable spacing.

Definitely. 3pt shooting does wonders for an offense. I really hope Strus develops other facets of his game and I love how Jimmy has been jokingly busting his balls about his defense because I know Strus is working on it, as evident from how he played against the Wolves.

Side note: it's crazy that none of this would be an issue if Strus had replaced Duncan in the SL. And he's earned it, too.

I think Spo is starting to come around with Strus > Duncan, since Strus has been logging more minutes than Duncan, but it's tough to tell with Caleb Martin being out because Caleb could end up taking those minutes when he's back.

If Caleb is hitting his threes he's irreplaceable. If Strus had elite defense, the same.

Duncans having a rough year but it's not as bad as the forum labels him. If he gets hot in the playoffs all will be forgotten.

Because we're getting so much value out of everyone else.

He's our 4th highest paid player by more than double the next guy. Just think of how you would perceive him if we weren't this deep and we were losing games.

But I agree that if he gets hot in the playoffs, it's a different story, and everyone will forget.

Yea most players are overperforming, true. Duncan will probably be traded to make way for Herro's deal anyway. Heat can't keep paying everyone. But as of now he's here and he's hit some key threes this season.

Klay just came out of a big slump himself.

In the end, we're all rooting for Duncan, even his biggest haters. We all know that Duncan's success = Heat's success.

We're 11-1 when Duncan scores +20pts and that one loss came against the Suns, so he did his part and against a quality opponent.

That's real talk. The pressure is on his ass to perform though and looking at his body of work this year... It's not the worst. But yeah, it could be better.

Wow that's a terrible stat, 11-1 winning when scoring more than 20+. So context matters like I tell anyone about stats. So what your saying is we have played a grand total of 70 games, and in those 70 games only 12 times has Duncan been able to make value of his 90 million dollar salary. Here is a better way to look at what he does, how many wins have come in games were he has shot 42% or greater in vs how many loses have happened in games were he has shot below 28%? That should be the measuring stick for a prolific 3pt shooter. Taking efficient shots away from other players while not contributing on the defensive side, in fact a net negative is very impactful.
