So it's time. ARE YOU GETTING ON THE TANK OR NOT?

Post#1 » by RexBoyWonder » Mon Nov 21, 2022 1:33 pm

It's time to pick a **** lane.

We're not going all in with trades for stars, but we're not maximizing our draft position or developing the kids either.

We're stuck in the worst place - fighting for the play-in game. Something has to give.

Scenario 1 :

We trade Lowry for a pick,
Trade Jimmy for a few picks,
If you don't believe in Herro trade him too,
Caleb, Max, Vincent - can probably net some bad contracts with picks,
fast track Jovic, Cain, maybe another unproven young guy.

If we get a high pick this year and nail it, we can use all these picks for a third star and be back to fighting for HCA by 2024.

Scenario 2 :

We get healthy, somehow pull off a great trade for a KD or an allstar level player, start to finally mesh, everyone get energized, Jimmy and Bam are tearing it up, Herro makes the jump, role players get hot and we're in the HCA range this year since the standing are super tight from 4 to 13.

If we're going to get an allstar player we can move on but if not, we definitely need to rebuild. a pf like pj tucker or crowder won't save our ass.

Also if this is going to be full rebuild then Bam it should be tradable.

Whatever happens, this trade must be before the deadline. Time is working against us. Take an allstar or blow it up.

i'm on the tank already this whole project as a team went sideways since tucker and morris left, the heat should have added not substracted

FO is banking heavily on internal development

I know it's better to tank early if you're going to tank, but I have to give this team at least 30 games before I throw in the towel ... unless we start shutting everyone down ... in which case the NBA will investigate and then take away our pick.

Is that what we're doing? I thought we were just diddling. Or dithering. Either or both.

If it involves playing the young guys now then I'm in. I like seeing the urgency they play with when allowed the freedom.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

I don't think you can expect to get a pick for Lowry or Duncan. Those are just bad contracts right now. If LAL thought that those two could help, then I'd be willing to suffer the look of Russ in a Heat jersey. No picks either way, just a get out of debt for a minor inconvenience fee.

Jimmy's your Big sell. He could net you a couple first rounders, one of those would need to be something spicy though. Maybe that LAL pick from the Pels.

Max could get us a first rounder I believe. Late first rounder from a team that could use his competitiveness. Would be better to get a pick then to pay him a Max contract that's above his pay grade.

Dipo should grab some bench and praise the Heat gospel.

Martin can stay. Good contract. Good bench player.

And if you're going to use the draft as a launching point, you might as well hang out in it for a couple years. Increase your chances of getting a star player.

Make it a two year rebuild. Flush those stinky contracts. Get young, high ceiling talent. Open up cap space for the next star FA.

Oh yeah, and get Wade back from Utah. Wtf?

I love Jimmy but I feel it’s best for both sides to move on. Get 3 unprotected picks minimum and then set your sights on trading Lowry, then the expiring guys that want to get paid (Gabe, Strus, Yurt)

I'm 100% all-in on tanking at this point.

Even if we are completely healthy, I can't see this team contending anymore. And that's what often happens. Most teams that are very close (just as we were the past few years) only have a small window. And eventually that window begins to close - sometimes fast, sometimes slow. But each core of players usually only has a couple year window IMO, and ours is shut.

I'm also open to Riley trading every single player on this roster. There are no prime Dwyane Wade's on this team.

The only player I would be a bit hesitant to trade is Jovic due to his age/potential/low salary. You usually don't get back good value for a player that is at the stage he's at in his career.

If we do blow it up, keeping priorities :

Bam
Jovic
Herro

Bam is good enough and young enough to be building block for the new team
Jovic is young, cheap and shows an high enough ceiling
Herro is young enough and might improve enough to become a building block

Jimmy too old, and no one else on this roster matters.

Bam could be a good building block but I personally wouldn’t miss him if we did trade him. I think he’s already peaked as a player and could see a steep decline in his game once he starts losing his athleticism.

Our primary focus should be finding the next generational Heat guy in the draft and developing him in one of the best developmental teams in the league in Miami

This is the only thing I see handcuffing us for what some are asking of Miami on this thread. Miami will never go full reset. Because they will never trade Jimmy unless he ask out, i believe Jimmy regardless of how bad we play, is in it to retire here. Addionally Lowry was brought due to Jimmys request, so I see Lowry expiring here aswell with us signing him up for like a mid level type deal for 2 more years. However I could see Jimmy retiring after hus contract expires depending on what he shows in his last year.

I find tanking abhorrent, so no....the moment this team makes it apparent they're tanking is the moment I cease to care as a fan. If we're going to be bad, I'd rather it be because we don't have the talent. Our contract situation is what it is....compete and try to make the most of it.
