Weird question to ask on a Heat forum. Obviously everyone is going to say Jimmy. Plus it doesn’t help that Pierce is a garbage human being

No cause it was about "can the heat surpass the Pierre/Garnett / allen core"?

I love me some Jimmy Butler but realistically speaking we haven't seen anything yet that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he's a better basketball player than Paul Pierce. The latter is an NBA champion, Finals MVP, 10-time all-star, been in countless heavyweight playoff battles, was a better scorer than Jimmy is and was doing this in an era where there was a lot less spacing. Jimmy is getting to the basket against guys who can't afford to clog the lane (because they gotta stay out on shooters). The Truth was dropping 45 against Duncan, KG, Shaq, peak Dwight waiting to knock his ass down.

Talent-wise, Jimmy is probably somewhere in between a Paul George and a Kawhi Leonard, and it's Kawhi who I'd compare to a Paul Pierce, Tracy McGrady and so on...

I mean.. I guess this clip works? Thing is, Pierce was the type of player that would always rise to the same level as Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Melo, KD in direct matchups, and would do it in the regular season too. His willpower was amazing. Playoff Jimmy can do that too, but I've yet to see him do it consistently - I'm not sure he's that type of driven scorer anyway. He's more of a facilitator during the regular season, picking his spots cleverly, taking advantage of spacing to score. Pierce would just attack everything and make something out of nothing.
