I'm not happy saying it - but I think this draft and the next few after this one will dictate if we're getting back to contending before 2030 or not. I can't overstate the importance of these drafts for this organiztion at this point of time.

I know many don't see it or don't care, don't take the draft very seriously and think it's somewhat meaningless. My view is that in our situation - with an aging star, free agency for stats practically dead, no young blue cheap talent on the roster - the draft is the main tool we can hope to use to propel us up - back to the contenders list.

We badly need to hit on a couple of gems this draft and next, because there's no outside stars coming to save us any time soon.

Every team that gets to the Finals gets there being led by their drafted players.

Trying to pry away a player via trade wipes out your assets and when it fails (looking at you Brooklyn) then youre left scrambling for picks to recoup what you lost.

The league has set it up so that stars stay with their teams. You have to draft like a boss.

Agreed - and by "drafting like a boss" I DONT mean getting a useful role player at #15.

You better acquire Multiple first round picks, some of them better blow up way above their expected projection, you better take some chances on rawer players with elite tools and high upside, you can't keep playing it extra safe and collect a bunch of B- talents.

Build a squad with 15th picks, but they have to have their leader. We need a top five pick at some point who maxes out. Once again, this coming draft looks to have a top four that could turn a team around potentially.

Move Jimmy. Move Herro for the right deal. Do NOT pay Caleb and Highsmith big deals. Fix your crazy cap situation and replenish the cupboard.

If we don’t pay out next year’s pick to OKC we are screwed because then you give OKC a potential lottery pick in 2026 and 2028 to Charlotte.

I dont see how it matters much. If we tank and get a top 4 player we win. Knowing our org, we will give up the 17th pick.

Tank and win.

Dont tank and give up the 17th pick.

You know damn well this organization is not tanking.

Then why does it matter what year we give up our pick?

Because the difference is not being protected in case something stupid injury wise happens to key contributors that leaves us with a losing team scrapping by that ends up in the lottery regardless of how hard they try and win during that wrong year. Why just give away 2028 unprotected to Charlotte causing even more trade pick ramifications. The protections were put in place for good reason. Charlotte is actively rooting for us not to pay out the pick this year. I guarantee the way Riley was talking in that presser he's stressing heavily about getting more wins in the regular season and staying out of the play in next year.

We've got a pretty good draft record the last 7 years. I've got no reason to think they won't come out with a couple of good players but we've gotta be realistic about the odds of getting a franchise changing player outside of the top 10.

If we stick to our game plan and go with the players we workout and passes all of our test we will be ok coming out with two solid contributors in this draft. During the Winslow draft we did not work him out and worked out J Rich and took him in the 2nd and he has outlasted rook 1. We worked out Booker that year and should have just taken him instead of falling under the trap of needing to take the player that's sliding.

If the Hawks want him they can’t risk dropping to 4. Rockets are a prime trade target for the Grizzlies.
