Re: 2025 Training Camp & Preseason Thread
Jovic extended for MLE money. Not sure he's earned that contract, but Miami must feel good about him going forward. If Jovic comes anywhere close to fulfilling the potential some on this board think he has, this will be a steal.
Still, based on what we've seen, this is MLE money for a guy who hasn't played more than 46 games in any single season and really hasn't shown a whole lot when he has played.
Best-case scenario is Jovic has an Avdija-esque breakout; worst-case is Miami repeats its failed signing of Josh McRoberts at almost 3x the total.

I am going to wait it out to see how it all plays out. But it seems fronm the rhetoric that Jovic will be starting and Ware coming off the bench, and Mitchell will be starting and Jakučionis will be the back up. Rozier injury doesn't appear to be good news for him going forward.

It's a good deal, Avdija is going to be 25y this season, Jovic 22y; There really were no expectations for Jovic so far and even if he doesn't have a great year this can still look good later. This isn't Jaquez who's 24y now and turns 25y during the season, Jovic is still very young.
When he played he impacted winning, this isn't really smth. you can say about many guys who are this young.

Based on what Jovic has shown in the NBA, it's a massive overpay. The bet is on some significant level of improvement, at minimum roughly what Avdija has done.
Avdija's breakout year actually came 2 years ago in Washington. He went from 9-6-3 on 44-30-74 to 15-7-4 on 50-37-74. He basically replicated that in Portland last year, and he notably was above 5fta/game and he got his scoring up to 17/game.
That sort of breakout doesn't have to come for Jovic this season, especially with Wiggins, Powell, Adebayo and, eventually, Herro, higher on the pecking order. I would argue that Jovic should be Miami's 6th man and he should get opportunities to have a much greater impact to see what he is actually capable of. That would set him up to replace Wiggins, who I would imagine is not re-signed by Miami next summer.
It's hard to see a scenario where Jovic becomes an albatross contract, but this could very well become a Duncan Robinson-type contract if Jovic stagnates.

Bro, who tf is negotiating these contracts? Couldn’t they wait until Jovic had one good complete season before shelling out this much guaranteed money over that many years?
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Wow. A lot excitement over a Mid-Level deal. It's not like Jovic is a bum. He is an improving 22 year old 6'10" 240lb front court player that can pass and shoot 3s with a little more upside. Who else are we going to get for that kind of money that is better?
I actually like the deal. The mindset is starting to change from happy to be in the NBA to how great can I become.

You have to remember there is a group of people who believes either you should get a max deal or a min deal, nothing in between. #F"MiddleClass

To anyone freaking out over Jovic, all I have to say is, remember it is 2025, not 2015.

Just feels very foolish to have Jovic starting at this point. He got paid so we shouldn't worry about him forcing things and the bench is better role for him for now. The real goal this season is to see if Bam can play and thrive as a PF, we drafted Ware to make that happen. Ware was one of the few bright spots of the season last year so him starting makes the most sense to help see if that unlocks Bam potential at PF.

The Jovic deal is great for both sides. If he stays healthy he will outplay his contract easily

I dont think they are going to force it. It appears that Jovic has matured physically and mentally well past Ware. And the contract seems to be an indication of what the coaches see. The players been practicing together for a few weeks at the arena. Ware, Jovic and Bam is going to be the big rotation regardless who starts. They will all three play with each other.

Now it’s really up to Spo. He’s gotta play the man the minutes he needs fulfill the contract and his potential.

I just see it differently. Avdija didn’t really show much until last year, most metrics back that up. Jovic, on the other hand, has already flashed that he can play winning, impactful basketball in the roles he’s been given.
People are just overlooking how young he still is and how much room there is for him to grow. He’s years away from his physical peak and the only real thing holding him back so far has been injuries, which can happen to young players still growing into their body.
The deal makes sense, they are paying for a player who’s already helped winning lineups and still has significant upside.

Yeah, I'm probably the biggest proponent of Jovi on here and I am even a little caught off guard by it. Not that the deal is bad, but I'm surprised they rushed to get it done.
Maybe they are seeing something in camp and over the summer that makes them think he would have gotten more expensive if we waited a season? Idk. Or, maybe even more likely, maybe they felt compelled to lock him up since they wouldn't give him up for Durant during the summer (which I still don't fully disagree with).

Saudades.

Jovic has been in and out of Miami's lineup and been demoted from the starting lineup to playing sparing basketball when not injured. Miami hasn't been a particularly good team the last 2 years, and Jovic's impact on Miami's record has been negligible. I'm not sure how you can draw a conclusion that Jovic has somehow helped Miami play winning basketball when Miami hasn't been very good and Jovic has basically missed half of each of the last 2 seasons. His playoff numbers were good 2 years ago, but last year he was miserable in the Cavs series.
If I were going to make the case for Jovic, I think it starts with Avidja. I also think he compares favorably to Santi Aldama (3-years, $52M) and, to a lesser extent, Dorian Finney Smith (4-years, $52M) and Bobby Portis (3-years, $43M). Jovic's contract falls within those ranges. The difference is all the aforementioned guys have actually been impactful. With Jovic, we're still at a point where extrapolation and betting on a level of production we have yet to see from Jovic on a consistent basis is required to "justify" his deal.
Jovic may turn out to be a very productive player, but this is a relatively risky bet, especially with the contract being 100% guaranteed. I think it is equally as likely that Jovic becomes the next McRoberts or D Robinson as it is he becomes DFS, Portis, or Aldama.

Re: 2025 Training Camp & Preseason Thread
Just a few months ago there reports that Jovic could demand 3/30 and Heat fans were saying that was a good deal. And then Heat went and gave him 4/62!

4/60 is a great deal. In what world is a 22y/o 6th man on a playoff team (Jovic) getting less in 2025?

One thing to keep in mind comparing Deni to Jovic is Deni is a very good defender, we haven’t seen that from Jovic yet.
Also some pretty disappointing comments from Spo on Ware. Saying he’s not as engaged as he’d like without saying it. Sounds like he has potentially lost his starting spot and the same issues just keep on coming back with him. You can’t teach motor.
