Anyone thought of brining in Zo to the Heat coaching staff? Does he have any interest in that? Think he'd be any good? Imagine us drafting a young big and Zo taking on a Kareem role and teaching the youngster, getting him ready for when Shaq retires.

Zo doesn't seem the patient type to work with young players

Zo is great, but isn't a Kareem but def. he'd teach and good thing or 2 about defense and he would be a coach in this league IMO. I won't say he would teach about heart because that isn't something you can teach, you either have it or not

Maybe he could help with weight training or be a big man coach.

He'd get on everyone to play hard, I'll tell you that.

I don't know. I think there's a different kind of authority when you're a coach.

He earned over $120M in his career. Millions more in charity. Travel takes a toll on his body and is thought to have expedited the condition in the first place when he flew from Australia to Miami and back in a 48 hour span. He wants to be with his family. Do you really see him learning the coaching ropes? I see him taking over for Wali Jones as the Heat's director of community outreach. Or perhaps as a VP in name like Magic is for Lakers.

He's already said that he wouldn't coach on the NBA level because guys in the NBA don't listen.

I also just don't particularly think he's all that smart. He's a ballhog on offense, and his BBall IQ isn't extremely high. He has good instincts, excellent timing etc. As in his skills, timing and physicality are good, but I don't see him as a coach. Usually guards/small forwards who have little in the way of physical skills/speed etc but have managed to make the most of what little they have by having a high bball IQ tend to be good as coaches.

He would be a great towel waver anyway

He'll go to TNT before he coaches (which is highly unlikely)

His ol buddy Patrick has told him the stresses of coaches, and I don't believe Alonzo wants part of that.

I'd expect TNT or committing himself to his charity work

If Miami won the draft lottery and select Beasley or players like D. Jordan or Hibbert, Zo is an asset as part of the coaching staff.

I'm sure he'd love to see Hibbert go to the Heat (fellow Georgetown guys).

I could see him as an assistant, if we draft a young big, and he could help mold him. But no, I can't see Zo as a head coach.

Askins was a fighter if you remember and an emotional player. But look he is a nice coach.

Zo has years of experience with all kinds of things off the court like Zo's Summer groove and now his program for Kidney's and all that. he knows how to deal with people.

I think he could be a coach if he wanted to.

That's a cool option to think about it.

I'm really glad we're retiring his jersey this season though, that should be nice to watch.

Yeah, he pretty much announced his retirement already and the Sun Sports guys said we'd be retiring his jersey this season.

Don't hold your breath on Shaq though, I hope he's gone by next year.

yeah hes def. not worth his contract any more

but he still commands a double or tripple team every night.

its not easy to get a guy at center that does that. he dropped 20 on howard. he packed yao mings fadeaway. he blocked 7 shots and he barely jumps anymore. and he plays better in the playoffs anyway.

I feel as if he needs an offseason to rest and refocus (his passing has been terrible). what we need is better and smarter players to go with our core of shaq wade wright cook haslem. and were gonna miss zo real bad cuz hes probably the best defender this team will ever know
