14 of the 30 teams in the league have NEVER won a Championship. Ask any of them if they would do the Shaq trade.

It has also been over 20 years for 8 of the 16 who have won and for 6 of the 16 its been over 30 years! Ask them if they would do the Shaq trade.

So ask yourself again, Would you do the Shaq trade? No brainer, YES!

If we didn't do the Shaq trade, we would have had a really nice team now, but no guarantees of a championship. My guess is we wouldn't yet.

Did we get lucky versus Dallas? Maybe. But it still says NEVER next to Dallas's name on the NBA Champions list.

13 year bump. Was a treat reading players names from the mid 2000's though.

I think the bigger what if is always the “what if we didn’t pay 4 draft picks in S&Ts, to get the extra year we gave Bron & Bosh?” Considering they opted out of those years, the trades became moot in the end.

The picks that were ours became: Cole (28th 2011), Nedovic (30th 2013), Luwawu-Cabarrot (24th 2016), plus two seconds (one of which became Jae). Plus there was a protected Raptors pick that would have conveyed as the 20th in 2014.

Add in that we traded away a pick that became Bledsoe to move Cook in 2009 & then Beasley for nothing (2 seconds that we later moved, one of which became Bojan Bogdanovic and the other was the pick before Powell & Clarkson in 2014).

We’ve traded away some pretty decent players in the picks we’ve had in our hands at times.

The disastrous 07-10 years would have been avoided if they kept Odom and Butler. The Wade/Odom/Butler core was only missing a quality C to be a powerhouse for many years to come.

Shaq only had one MVP season left in him (2005) and was horrible after the 2006 ECF when Dampier held him to a pathetic 12 PPG in the Finals!!!

Yes, Shaq brought a then-unprecedented level of excitement and expectation to the city and organization in 04, but he declined so quickly and became so toxic that he quit on the team just two years after he rode Wade's coat-tails to the title.

Even though Shaq and the Heat have repaired their relationship, I wonder whether Pat, deep down, wishes he stuck with the Odom/Butler/Wade core longer.

The 2005 season was magical until Wade's rib injury cost them a spot in the Finals, but Shaq started to become major trouble after that season, as we all remember.
