Heat Still Looking At Spanoulis

I know I mentioned this before and no one believed me. Anyway again the Heat have had scouts in Greece to watch him play.

I found two compilation videos of him on youtube where he did not really have any before when I mentioned the Heat were scouting him.

So anyway this can say a lot more than my words can which really it seemed no one believed me.

This video is called "The Greek Steve Nash" it is all international clips, Greek League, Euroleague, FIBA, and also Greece against Team USA game.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cHwY13rlPjA

This video is called "Euroleague's Best Point Guard" and it is 50% international clips from Greek League, Euroleague, and FIBA and also 50% NBA clips with the Houston Rockets.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=OFJfbQDNwM8

See I was telling the truth about what this player can do, just there wasn't really video at the time to prove it. He just got a coach that hated playing rookies and then had to go back to Greece because his mother was very ill but he has an opt out clause after this year if he wanted to go back to the NBA.

It is also said by his agent that the Spurs, Pistons, Celtics, Trail Blazers, Warriors, Suns, Kings, Wizards, Jazz have contacted him about him joining them so the Heat would have to be serious if they were to get him if he decides to come back next year but that Miami has a starting spot, Wade, a top pick coming and the Greece-like climate Spanoulis is looking for.

PG Spanoulis
SG Wade
SF Haslem
PF Beasley
C Shaq

That could be pretty good next year if everyone was healthy.

Anyway, if he stays in Greece we will support him because he's the best talent in Europe, but we really want a player to succeed in NBA and he's the Greek player that can so I am honest to Heat fans your team keeps scouting him. You don't need my word now on what he can do you can see it in these youtube video clips.

Spanoulis sucked with the Rockets, i'd much rather the Heat pick up Navarro than Spanoulis.

1. Navarro is not a point guard. He's an undersized shooting guard that plays zero defense.

2. Spanoulis is a point guard and a big one, much bigger and stronger than Navarro is by about 30 pounds of muscle. Spanoulis is also a hell of a defensive player just ask D. Wade after all he knows well from the Greece - USA game at the World Championship. He's the #2 rated defender at the guard spots in Europe after only Dimitris Diamantidis who would be the best defender in the NBA if he played in the NBA.

3. When given a chance to play Spanoulis is better than Navarro and Calderon and in Europe he is considered a much bigger talent than either of them. But they unlike him were given a chance to play.

Hahaha, you did not just say that Spanoulis is better than Calerdon .. wow.

Showing me stats of one single international game that has nothing to do with this league does nothing to prove your argument by the way.

it's not that we didn't believe you; it's just that we didn't care. He's your hero, we get that. To us, he's a guy who washed out of the league and who might or might not be on our radar, but if he is, it's not to save the franchise.

Well you are factually incorrect. he got stuck with a coach who has a policy that he will not play a rookie unless injuries force him to.

He then demanded a trade because he did not like that the Rockets did not play him even though their GM asked the coach to.

He was traded to the Spurs for Luis Scola who is a pretty good PF/C and certainly must have some trade value. Certainly a better player than Haslem is.

He was wanted by the Rockets but the relationship just got burned.

In fact Adelman, McGrady, Yao said in the paper they begged him to stay.

Here's Yao's opinion on his ability:

ROCKETS NOTES: Spanoulis draws Nash comparrison

By FRAN BLINEBURY AND JONATHAN FEIGEN

Are the Rockets ready for Steve Nasharopoulos of Athens?

As you would expect, progress is coming in small steps for Vassilis Spanoulis. The star of the Greek national team had 10 points, eight assists and four turnovers in 22 minutes against Milwaukee.

"Every day for me is a new lesson," Spanoulis said. "I learn new things every day about the NBA, because it's totally different than playing in Europe. Every day I'm learning my teammates a little better, and that makes things better for me."

Spanoulis' tallest teammate is quite impressed.

"He is great," said Yao Ming. "He can see the court. He always makes the right decision. He makes passes to the right people, and passes are right on target.

"Give him time, and I think he will maybe be like Steve Nash one day."

Tracy McGrady's opinion:

http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2006/09/tmac ... e_one.html

He said Vassilis Spanoulis has "a tremendous upside."

He had trade value. The Spurs wanted him to be the backup at both guard spots for about 25-30 minutes a game this year per the Rockets GM.

Here is what Greg Popovich said about the situation:

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/bask ... e9f7b.html

Missing Vassilis: Popovich says he wishes Vassilis Spanoulis, now a guard for Panathinaikos, would have stayed in the States.

Spanoulis, traded to the Spurs in the offseason as part of the Luis Scola deal, was waived in early July after he made it clear he had no intention of remaining in the NBA.

"He had a great chance to be a backup on our team," Popovich said. "I was disappointed when he said he didn't want to play in the NBA anymore. I didn't even get to talk to him about it. Not one word."

Spanoulis did not play in Saturday's game. He opted to stay behind in Greece while nursing a sore calf."

he had to leave the NBA because his mother was suicidal and he had to go back to Greece and had to demand out of his contract with the Spurs. He then signed a 3 year contract with an opt out clause to return to the NBA after one year if he wanted to after he got his mother some help.

He did not wash out of the NBA at all factually wrong. He did not get lack of playing time because he was a wash out factually wrong. It was because Van Gundy just said it was his policy to only play a rookie if their were injuries and as you can see his two best teammates seemed to be impressed by what they saw.

There is that "one single international" game where he outplayed Wade or does Wade have nothing to do with the NBA either? You forget about that game? If so some of it was in that first video clip I provided "The Greek Steve Nash" maybe it will remind you. I am sure Pat Riley was watching and I am sure Wade would give a positive review to the Heat on it.

Also does Team USA have "nothing to do with the NBA" also? A team of NBA all-stars has "nothing" to do with NBA I suppose to you.........

or that Spain-Greece game you assert has "nothing to do with the NBA".

You apparently missed the players on Spain:

Calderon NBA player
P. Gasol NBA player
Garbajosa NBA player
Rodriguez NBA player
Navarro NBA player
Fernandez first round draft pick future NBA player
M. Gasol draft pick future NBA player

Playing against a team of NBA players the whole game "nothing to do with the NBA".

I suppose Spanoulis being the best player in the game against all these Spanish NBA players truly has "nothing to do with the NBA" as you assert may be a bit factually wrong.

I don't think you Heat fans get it. If he stays in Greece he stays in Greece. You apparently don't realize that winning the Greek Championship and Greek Cup and Euroleague every year is 1 million times more important to Greek fans than the NBA. We would like to see Greeks do well in the NBA IF THEY GO THERE but the NBA is minor importance just as you don't seem to care about anything other than NBA even some fans saying FIBA means "nothing"..............well tell that to Team USA and Coach K and the Olympic committee, anyway believe it or not in Greece NBA doesn't mean jack.

You see how people here keep saying they "don't care" about anything not NBA well Greek basketball fans care about Greek League, Greek Cup, and Euroleague all of which Spanoulis will be winning with Panathinaikos as long as he wants to.

It is the MIAMI HEAT that are trying to get him and pry him from Panathinaikos it is the MIAMI HEAT that "love him". I am simply passing the info on and I am getting some nonsense responses for doing so and also many posts that are factually wrong.

I was just trying to pass along some info you wouldn't be getting over there as a favor to you. I will never do so again the attitude is very poor.

Thanks for the info. I would love for the Heat to sign him as I feel that we have really missed the boat with the European Players. Many years ago, the Heat, under GM Wallace, was very active going after Euro players but none of them worked out for us after we drafted/signed them, so Pat has completely backed off. Hope that changes.

The international board is a nice play to stop if you don't like to talk about the NBA or don't care for it.

Spanoulis is a good player, but he's just as much of a point guard as Navarro is. The difference between the two is that Navarro can shoot, and Spanoulis really can't. Also "Kill Bill" needs the ball in his hands too much for a guy who is that streaky. He doesn't fit next to Wade at ALL.

Nice player for Europe, but he's not even the best prospect on his team.

If the Heat sent scouts (read: Adam Simon) to watch Panathinaikos, it was probably more for Diamantidis than for Spanoulis, who I doubt will ever return to the NBA considering the way he left. Also Sarunas plays there too (and is very interested in returning to the NBA), and I think he's actually a better fit for Miami as well.
