As the Heat moves forward with plans to retool for the future, swingman Ricky Davis has a message for president and coach Pat Riley: Don't trade me.

''I definitely don't want to leave again,'' said Davis, in his second stint in Miami after a short stay in 2000-01. ``I'm at the stage of my career where I'm trying to find a home, somewhere best for me. I want to be here.''

One of Riley's biggest dilemmas leading to the Feb. 21 trading deadline might be deciding what to do with Davis, who has an attractive expiring contract and hasn't had the impact expected when he was acquired with center Mark Blount trade with Minnesota on Oct. 24.

Davis was brought in to be a third scoring option and perimeter defender to complement Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. But Wade and O'Neal have missed a combined 22 games because of injuries, and Davis is averaging just 13.6 points in his least productive season since 2001-02.

Riley repeatedly has said Davis is valuable to the Heat, which is an NBA-worst 9-36 after Friday's loss to New Jersey. But Riley also has said the Heat has been involved in plenty of trade discussions, although no moves were imminent. That could change with one phone call, considering the Heat has as many as 10 players with contracts that aren't guaranteed beyond this season.

''It's still a good place for me -- even though we're going through what we are,'' Davis said. ``It takes a certain amount of time for a team to grow together and be on the same notch they were as champions two years ago.''

I'm not worried if the Heat will keep Davis because I believe Riley will do what

While I think that with a good enough team, his offense off the bench could still have some value, I don't want him here for more than about 2 mill per (permitting we can't do any better in FA and thats an absolute maximum salary I could handle) and there is almost no chance he will accept that type of money anyway, once again it is less-than-one and done for Ricky.

i like Ricky...his scoring off the bench is valuable..he can be our Jerry Stackhouse, Flip Murray, Barbosa, Ginobili.

People that say hes not a winner are being unfair...hes been in bad situations, and again..hes not the reason why we suck..Hes been passing the ball very well lately.

You guys are delusional.

Ricky Davis is beyond HORRIBLE. He is one of the dumbest players i've ever seen, like he literally has no basketball IQ. He passes when he's wide open, he shoots when he has a hand in his face, he's absolutely useless in the fourth quarter and bricks/turns everything over at that point, and he only succeeds on a losing team.

I'm going to be beyond devastated if the Heat sign this guy again after his contract is up.

yeah no ricky next yr and i wouldnt hesitate to trade him in the right deal but I think we need his expiring so that next offseason we can sign dorrell back and use the mle...btw, i wouldnt sign dorrel for more than the mle if a team offered it...

with that said we should do the following deal: m. miller and navarro for j will and cook, 2009 2nd rd picks

next season, we sign dorrel and a backup pg like dooling for 1/2 the mle

shaq/blount
beasley/haslem
miller/wright
wade
navarro/dooling

we'd be 11 mil under the lux tax, letting us sign dorrell (as a 6th man d stopper), dooling (1/2 mle) and beasley

great mix of offense and defense, a potent bench, youth and veteran leadership, shooters to space the floor

Oh, to clarify, I want him traded, don't want him here. But if he does return, only way is as a spark of the bench if we load up, and I don't want him earning significant money. Sometimes these sorts of player have value where you can bring them in, and if they are hot you can keep em in, but if they are cold they get no court time. We don't have that luxury as we suck and Ricky gets 30 mpg regardless of his play. I don't think he accepts a 10-30 mpg type role, or a small amount of money (at least till he crawls back with his tail between legs when noone offers him MLE) from us, so I assume he is gone.

am i the only person that thinks Ricky could be a player to keep. Riley should tell him"I wont trade you but you have to resign at 3 years 9 million". The guy can be a nice spark off the bench ala Jerry Stackhouse. This team is bad and he is not a starter and he is playing like a starter here. Bring the guy back as a 6th-7th man and he would be fine. We need more players that can create and score and ricky can do that. If anyone remembers my mini interview with him before the season it was the same thing.He said he wanted to stay here. He wants a home and to him this is home.

I would rather have a taller, better defender. Ricky at times could look descent, but like that guy said, he has very low basketball I.Q, and seems to do it in the worst possible times during games. The difference between him and a Walker, Walker could actually D up and do the small things to make up for it , and rebound, Ricky not that often, just some games he is inspired.

Like that guy said, the only way the Heat should keep him, if he is willing to take a small contract. And even if he did, I would still have second doubts about it.

If I believed all this crap talked about low BBIQ for so many players we'd only have a few players in the league.

It's mostly an urban myth.

Recently Ricky has been horrible but he did play some good ball when he was the third option he was picked up to be.

I don't mind if he stays or goes but some of you like to have someone to knock - you've not been able to knock luke in the last couple of games so Ricky is the new number 1 target.

i agree. our team is in shambles, and it's easy to assign blame. but, the problem isn't with any individual player but the whole. even wade is making horrendous plays and forcing stupid turn-overs while taking ridiculous jumpers. if we still had the '05-'06 team and substituted ricky for antoine, i think we'd still win.

Ricky Davis at a low price to be a 6/7th man would be terrific.. The guy can score and would be a great option off the bench.. The guy is a mediocre SF he plays way better at SG

hes horrible as a SF cause hes so outmachted defensively but ifwe bring him back its to play SG off the bench or play SF for just a little when we go small.

I think Ricky Davis is too old to be traded.....

The HEats will look to move him cause I think he will not be solution and Riley will want to use his expiring as bait for some good yount talent.

This guy is dumb as a rock on the court and has a poor attitude. Dude is terrible when he "plays defense". I couldn't stop laughing when he busted straight into Quinn letting the other team get an easy score. He was on skates.
