How does this work with the cap now? Do we automatically have to pay for his player option next season?

per winderman:
Parker, who had an additional season remaining on his contract, received a significant buyout, including a significant payout for the $2.5 million 2008-09 option year he had on his Heat contract.

Much as the Bronze Age, the Renaissance, and the Age of Enlightenment ultimately drew to a close... so ended the Age of Smush.

Parker had been on paid disciplinary leave since his involvement in a Nov. 27 altercation with a valet attendant at a downtown Miami condo. The Heat did not release details of the buyout agreement, but Parker will receive between $500,000 and $900,000 as part of his release.

That's awesome. We got out of betweem 1.5 and 1.9 mill? Great stalemate by Riley for not giving in and calling their bluff on the players association. Knew they had no case with the player option, as they could leave anytime.
