Do u think that Marion is a star?

Hi i am a Suns fan and by no mean a Marion hater even if some Suns fans might think that.

My problem with him is that he thinks that he is underrated but in my opinion i think he is even overrated. And what annoys me the most that he always crys for respect but dissapeared in important games during the playoffs.
He wants more (recognition) than he deserves.

He is simply one of the best role players of all time and the 2nd best rebounder under 6"8 of all time but nothing more.
He is not a game changer. He needs at least one superstar player around him to be really good (like Kidd, Marbury of those days, Nash and in the future maybe Wade).

What do u think about him so far? Honest opinions, please :-)
thx and good luck for ur team.

I think he's great and hope we keep him alongside Wade and our draft pick for a few years.

He is definitely a star, but not a superstar.

He is the perfect compliment to a superstar. He rebounds, doesn't need plays called for him and still scores pretty well. He finishs great at the rim, is terrific on the fast break and a decent defender.

I too hope we have him around for a couple years.

Marion is not a superstar, but he is the ultimate role player (and a star). What he's brought here is leadership. He's been vocal. We need that. I hope he sticks around and finishes his career here (obviously, for less than $17 million a season)...

One thing that I never really noticed was how ugly his shot is, but he still shoots at a good percentage.

Marion is the ultimate role player. He the hustle guy on a team. Is he worth a Max contract or anything like that? No. His best asset is his expiring contract not what he brings to the court to this team.

Marion is not a superstar but a very good role player.
I believe he will be traded if he asks more money or Riley can get a good deal for a big man to balance it out with Wade, big and small than both perimeter players. I

The market for SFs is getting cheaper. All he has to do is look at what Caron Butler, Gerald Wallace, Josh Howard, and Prince are making. Richard Jefferson tops off at 15 mil per year.

So I don't see why Marion, at 30, should be getting more than an average of 12-13, despite his resume. Those other guys can at least create their own shot, and shoot 3s at a higher percentage.

Rashard Lewis messed it up for everybody though.

IMO, what a waste of $.

Like I said on the Suns board, trick83, Marion is certainly a star and he's better than Shane Battier. Deal with it.

He is a good player, but not a great player. How he got that huge contract, I don't know, but I certainly don't see him getting anything close to that again. I hope we can trade him this summer for a younger player and high draft pick, if possible.

Yes he is better than Battier but like Battier only a role player and not a true star who can win u games, he is a hustler and warrior but sucks mostly during important games. He has nice stats and is an overrated defender because he mostly cannot shut his opponents down.
Deal with it. the suns are better with shaq in the playoffs.

Uhm, role players win you games all the time. If you don't think Udonis Haslem and James Posey were big reasons why we won the championship, then you weren't watching...

not to mention Gary Payton had 2 important shots, and Alonzo Mourning dominating in like 15 minutes a game

Role players are an important key to a championship team. But at the same time no one would pay a role player anywhere near what marion is getting.

But Marion is considerably more than just a role player...

Marion is more than a role player but in the playoffs with seconds left on the clock i would rather have:

Caron Butler
Prince
Josh Howard

All can create there own shot and can take over a team, something that Marion to date is incapable of doing. That not even comparing Marion to the elite sf...

Again Marion is a great player but for what we need (a second option) and what Marion offers are completely different. On a team full of allstars like the Suns Marion is perfect, on the worst team in the league well....

Yah, but Marion is the type of player that would fly in, get an offensive rebound, and put it back up and give you the lead.

Butler yea

But Prince is not better than Marion, Prince has had his choking moments..he shot like 30% against Cleveland, and he was very average against us when we won it all. Same with Josh Howard.
