I know that the games are worthless at this point, and I know that we have little other firepower on the team now so even scrubs have a chance to shine. Having said that, am I the only one that thinks Quinn is a solid backup PG that's certainly worthy of resigning, and even moreso, is probably worthy of being the future backup PG for the Heat? I know that Banks is the better athlete/shooter/defensive player, but I'm not yet sold on him as anything more than a short SG at this point. Quinn won't be a star, but he can initiate the offense, is efficient, and works his tail off. How likely is it that this guy is resigned, and what will he cost us?

He's always shown that he's backup PG material (at least since the PHX game). People just refused to recognize it.
I could see him getting a Travis Diener contract minimum: 3 years. 5 to 6 mil.

Another reason why i would love to move banks. I think Banks can be a player in this league but i think quinn can do alittle less but be alot bigger of a bargain. I also see Quinn only looking for a two year deal, unless he gets something over 2.2 a year.
I see Quinn signing for 2 Yr 4 Million--Same Contract Smush Got
Quinn(2 Million) > Banks(4.5 Million)

I wouldn't be to fast to pull that trigger.
Banks and Quinn's defense are like night and day.
Quinn is good for third string emergency back up, he has shown backup material in his offense, but his defense is just horrid. He is just so weak, and unathletic to ever be a good defender.
Don't get me wrong, I like Quinn's professional attitude, he just doesn't have the tools to be a defensive player in the NBA.
Look at teams like Detroit and Spurs. Their backup guards are some of the best defensive little guys. Banks could be that guy that could go against Billups.
No weak links in defense, that is how you win titles.
Know getting rid of Blount will do wonders for the Heat.

Cleary, Banks and Quinn are both back up materials. The former could be a defensive specialist and the latter is your typical point guard that can run a team and hit a three.
One is also quite overpaid. Here's hoping Miami won't over pay for Quinn's services.

I like Quinn,
He knows his role, he knows his weaknesses, he works on his weaknesses and improves week on week.
I'm quite sure he'll be working on his game over the summer wherever he goes, just like he did last year, unlike many of our team.

He'll probably be tendered rather than offered an extension. Though if they did see a future for him with the team they might just offer him a deal to keep him around for a while. Especially if we look to spend the MLE on bringing in another big.

With Banks, you have the back-up 1 & 2 covered pretty tightly.
PG/Banks
Wade/Banks
And Banks provides D at both positions, someone we lack at both positions as it stands right now.

Riley mentioned Banks and injured forward Dorell Wright (knee surgery) as players who could have benefited from playing time late in the season to determine how they fit into the team's future. Banks is under contract for three more seasons.
'There are certain guys you would have said, `No, we don't want to do anything, the guy has really arrived, he's improved, and we want to stay with him,' '' Riley said. ``I don't have that feeling about Marcus.''
Without Banks, and with Jason Williams playing less than eight minutes as a reserve, Quinn had another strong game: 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
''Quinny, with all the things that have gone wrong this year, has gone absolutely right -- totally right, in every aspect of the game.'' Riley said. ``I'm very interested in bringing a guy like Quinny back. Those are the kind of guys you want around.''
Quinn is a free agent this offseason.
''He's ahead of Marcus Banks in my mind,'' Riley said. ``That's going to be a very competitive training camp. Marcus is [26] years old, he's never made it anywhere yet. This summer he will show a lot about his improvement and where his game is and he's going to have to compete against guys like Quinny.''
Riley said other teams probably will be interested in signing Quinn.
The second-year player, who was undrafted from Notre Dame, said he has an idea where he wants to play next season. ''I would definitely like to be back in Miami,'' Quinn said.

Can't think of a worse nickname than Quinny... I'm not surprised that Riley wants him back either. He's flying under the radar right now and would be having an Udrih-like impact if there were some consistent scorers on the team beside him instead of a bunch of NBDL guys.

way to improve that Mucous Banks trade value

True. But maybe if a defensive-minded center can be brought on board and the opportunity to get Beasley and solidify the front court... maybe a PG rotation of Quinn/Banks won't be *so* bad?

or maybe it's motivation (indirectly) for Banks to work on his game over the summer, and come in to camp with something to prove?

Quinn's numbers for the last 5 games (4 out of 5 being against playoff teams, 3 out of 5 against championship contenders):
37 mpg
17.0 PPG
4.8 RPG
7 APG
1.4 SPG
1.6 TO PG
41.6% FGs
46% 3PFG
Those are great numbers, even if might be stat-padding a little with the rebounds. And this guy's only a 24-year old, second-year player. There's no reason not to bring him back.

My thoughts exactly. Riley has done the same in the past to other players (DWright, Simien etc).
In other words, the season is over but your new season begins the day after. Stay in shape, attend workouts, improve your game and compete in training camp and you have a spot in this team.
Players like Mike James, Malik Allen, Udonis Haslem etc earned spots by doing that. Banks has the opportunity to prove himself and Riles wants to see what he does with it (hence the Quinn example)

I don't know that those numbers are just stats considering that he is being the true floor general and is playing against 1st string players. His PPG are interesting but what impresses me the most and the reason why I would want him back are the Assists vs TO, high percentage FG and 3PTFG making him a highly effective player when on the court.

The fact that he's playing probably more than 60% of his minutes (adjusted for blowouts) against 1st-stringers is definitely a key point. It's not like he's doing this in garbage time. The almost 5-to-1 Assist-to-turnover ratio and 46% 3pt shooting are also terrific stats.
I could see someone trying to steal him with a pretty strong offer, given Riley's history of not willing to overpay backup PGs along with his age and the fact that he plays a premium position. Of course, those are also reasons to believe Riley will try a little harder to hold on to him.
Other reasons:
-At best, before roster moves, there will be only 9 other players under contract (Wade, Haslem, Marion(?), Blount, Banks, Cook, Wright, Anthony, Johnson(?)), with only 1 PG under contract. And he's got limited familiarity with the system in comparison.
-The team's only tools for improvement in free agency are the MLE and LLE. The best trading chips are DQ (who's value is decreasing), Haslem, 3 future second-round picks, and sign-and-trades with Wright, Davis, or JWill. I can't see Marion getting traded.
-He's the only "shooter" on the team other than Cook.
Reasons not to keep Quinn:
-If the Heat are in a position to draft Derrick Rose and can't find a suitor for Banks, then the PG rotation might be too expensive (9 mil between the two of them) to keep Quinn.
-If he gets an MLE-type contract. Very unlikely, but still possible.
-If Riley would rather keep JWill for "veteran experience"...
I'm all for keeping him around though. I don't foresee Riley letting his best shooter leave in free agency again.
Sad when this is the most exciting news about your favorite team.

And, Riley stresses defense like none other; Banks is a solid defender at the 1 and the 2 position.
So, if he can't be moved for cap relief/better player, he'll be a valuable asset to us, granted he can play the 1 or the 2, plus he can defend the 1 or the 2 and can shoot the rock pretty damn good from anywhere.

Could be. But it comes across bad at times.
I know Banks is still under contract, but those slick comments by Riley cost us Posey coming back.

Quinny's last 12 games: 15 ppg, 46% fg, 41% 3fg, 4 rpg, 5.7 apg
I hope he is a keeper.

^^^^^^
If he was to play in the NBADL, he would unseat reigning MVP Kasib Powell.
