Kapono question from his Heat days
Raptors fan here. As you know, the Raps signed away Kapono as a UFA. Lets just say the majority of the Raps board at this point either wants to run Kapono out of town, or run the coach out of town for his lack or production (although I disagree ... his stats aren't that much different than in Mia when corrected for minutes).
My basic question is this
For every 10 3pt shots that Kapono would take with Mia at their peak (last year and the title year):
How many 3's would be the following:
1. A wide open "spot up" 3pt shot
(based on a double on Shaq or DWade penetration/double team)
2. Kapono running off 1 or 2 screens and catching and shooting
(basically a set play drawn for him)
3. Kapono catch and shoot in transition
4. Kapono creating his own 3 pt shot (I assume this was 0/10)
Thanks guys. Hopefully you get a top 2 pick (Rose = drooooooooooool)

I'd trade Banks for him no problem.
The key to Kapono was his quick release in addition to his accuracy. When paired with a guy like DWade who you have to rotate to, his release made it easier to spread the floor. He'd be the same here without Shaq. His best days last year were him and Wade, not with Shaq.
That said, his contract is silly.

Mike James. Skip. Kapono.
The Raps have a knack for overpaying for our guys who we'd like to keep but cannot begrudge them getting their money. At least the Raps find a way of moving them, but it is bad for the league overall.
Perhaps they will offer MLE to Joel Anthony.

Posey made real sense when the Oneal-Wade nucleus was around, these days I think Dorell Wright can give us most of what Posey could have and is MUCH MUCH younger.
both our best cast as 7-8th man in the rotation, SF giving u 7-8 pts, 4-6 rebs, solid D...Posey brings 3pt shooting, Wright brings shotblocking.
very similar and we can lock up Wright much cheaper.
and most importantly Wright is Wade's best friend.

Obviously Riley made the mistake before the season when Shaq and Wade were the core of the team. Posey would've been great then and to be honest with you, I wouldn't mind him on the team now either.
As far as fits, Dorrell still has a lot to prove but if everything pans out for him, I agree that he is the best fit for this current team.

He's not way overrated anymore. I don't think anyone sees him as the next T-Mac.

I am a Heat fan and in no way do I overrate Dorrel. He is injury prone, doesn't hustle, isn't very smart, and has not improved his game much these past FOUR seasons.
12th man at best.
Is that overrated?

I remember when Kapono tried to increase the diversity of his game. He tried rebounding, playing defense, and catching and shooting. He wasn't very good at any of those 3.
He didn't really attempt to create his own 3 point shot or run off screens as Shaq and Wade were the go to guys.
Kapono was only effective at hitting that open long distance shot, but he hit that shot at a incredibly high %.
So to answer your question: 5/10 5/10 0 0
Why do you ask?

I ask b/c he's only attempted 116 3pt shots this year (last year he took 210). 25% of his attempts are 3's this year, last year it was 37%
Most of the posters on our board blame the coach for his lack of 3pt shots. They say we don't "run enough plays" for him.
I've always found the argument dubious, since to the best of my recollection the majority of the shots he took in Miami were essentially "spot up" or stand-still wide open 3's generated from a Shaq double team or D.Wade penetration. Just wanted to see if I was correct or mistaken.
He's also shown an annoying habit of refusing to shoot the 3 ball in traffic, and instead will put it on the floor and too often shoot a long, contested 2pt'r or try and dribble (which rarely turns out well).
My avatar & location says it all
He's more a glorified JJ Redick than a poor mans Del Curry or a crippled homeless mans Reggie Miller
