With the #2 pick already in hand, could we also leverage Marion's player option and use it to create an opportunity for more picks in this draft? I would trade Marion, Haslem, and Blount in a heartbeat for two first round picks and Wilcox.
With these picks we could get Beasley with our pick, Lopez with the #4, and probably land Westbrook or Chalmers with #24. We could maintain cap room for the next two off-seasons to boot. The question is whether we go after a PF or SF in FA to fill-out the rotations. I think Beasley would be best served starting out at SF though I think he'll fill-out into a true NBA PF down the road.
In that case, we need to find an affordable PF in FA. Najera from the Nuggets would be a nice PF off the bench who has good range (past the 3pt arc) for a big. Also, maybe the management can sell Zo on coming back for one more season. I think his veteran leadership - considering Wade's lead by example nature - will be needed on this team which will have lots of young guys needing guidance early on. Still, getting a cheap center like Diop would be useful as I doubt that Mourning will want to stretch his minutes too much until the post-season.
PG: Banks, Chalmers/Westbrook, Quinn
SG: Wade, Cook
SF: Beasley, Wright
PF: Wilcox, Najera
C: Diop, Lopez, Mourning
Yeah, this is just a pie-in-the-sky scenario...but I think the Sonics will be pretty serious about trading out of the #4 after taking two high picks last year and having nothing spectacular available to them. Marion and Durant would make quite a frontcourt for their franchise.
