Vinnie Del Negro hire in Chicago?

How do you guys think this hire might affect their draft plans or potential trade plans? Obviously, they really wanted the former Sun's coach but when they lost him to the Knicks, I guess they went for someone who might offer the same type of playing style. Will he want Beasley or Rose? How did he value Marion while both where together with the Suns? Would he push to get Marion to Chicago to play a similar role as he did with the Suns?

Very interesting questions and I am hoping some of you who might be more familiar with the Sun's organization might have some info.

Draft plans: even moreso likely to draft Rose. In his introductory press conference, he described his preferred playing style as "defense as the foundation with a fast paced (but not in a hurry) type of offense." One would assume that he'd want Rose to push that pace to set guys up.

He also specifically mentioned Tyrus, Thabo and Noah as three guys he liked a lot and that he targeted in Phoenix, but they (obviously) didn't have the picks to get them. He said he likes their versatility to guard/play multiple positions, so you've got to think he likes versatile, multi-positional players.

Him and Paxson both talked a lot about developing the youth, and that's why Vinny was brought in. He's a smooth talker and a good communicator. Listening to him talk, it was easy to see why Pax hired him to be the coach, and their main focus seems to be on devoping our youth.

Lastly, Ben Gordon has been pretty vocal in the media lately about the coaching search and who of Rose or Beasley he'd like to play with, and he's never once expressed any doubt about being here next year. Perhaps Paxson has given him a vote of confidence and they expect to come to terms on a new deal?

All the above would lead Cliff Levingston to think that Hinrich, Nocioni, Gooden and Hughes will all be on the block. Cliff Levingston would go back to the Hinrich + Nocioni + Gooden for Marion + Blount deal he proposed a couple weeks ago (Gooden and Blount can be left out if you prefer to keep Blount since he's more of a center than Gooden). Seems like a deal that both Paxson and Vinny would like.

I think on paper the Heat would like those players, but Riley has talked incessantly about having cap room for the first time in a long time for 2009 and/or 2010, so I can't see him adding salary on for all of them. If one were a true superstar in the Elton Brand/KG mode, perhaps, but I don't see him giving up his dream of a megastar for 3 nice complimentary players (and they ARE nice). If Shaq were still here and effective, I could see them wanting to add that package with Shaq & Dwyane. Now, not so much.

I'll always remember Del Negro for playing with the Spurs for so long all throughout the '90s...and then leaving the year before they won their first championship.

Vinny met Paxson at the pre-draft camp in Orlando & started talking to him.

It almost as if someone had heard that there was a job open and figured - "hey, what the heck, why not?"

Vinny has mentioned that the interview with Steve Kerr for the Phoenix job had prepared him for talking to Paxson. Apparently, he did a fabulous job of talking. He was well prepared & said the right things. Vinny said he has known Paxson for over 20 years - so he certainly knew what Paxson wanted to hear

Speaking for Vinny, I wonder if he will find a spot for his ex NC State teamate and former Miami Legend Chris Corchiani on the coaching/scouting staff.
