The Heat Retired Jordan's Number?

Sports Center was talking about Derrick Rose going to Chicago and how Rose wears #23 not for Jordan but for Labron (who I think wears it because of Jordan). Then they comment that interestingly, only Chicago and Miami (Rose's two possible destinations) are the only two teams to have retired Jordan's number.

Say my question is simply why would Miami retire Jordan's number?

cuz Riley had so much respect for MJ. I remembered it was an awkward ceremony back then when they retired it. i heard the jersey #23 is hidden from view currently. though you can't use 23 there.

Goes back to the Miami Heat having a "Ring of Honor" type of induction. I think MJ's and his 23 could've been displayed as a special "ring of honor" member rather than retire his number.

Riley ballwashing MJ :nonono:

If we somehow get Rose just have a public ceremony of them taking that jersey down and burning it on sight

It looks ridiculous, not just b/c he was an opposing player that made it impossible for some of our best teams to ever advance but its a half Bulls/ half Wizards jersey.

yeah, probably Riley's worst decision next to signing Smush Parker and giving Duane Causwell $4mil a year contract

He isn't Jackie Robinson. MJ was the best ever but he didn't cahge the worlds view. Riley is a nut. What is he crazy!!!

The heat didnt retire the jersey for Jordan, it was for Gary Grant. MJ was a smokescreen, he really did it for grant.

I'm ok with Jordan's number being retired here.

In fact, I think his number should be retired in every arena in the NBA.

We just gotta change that half-bulls/half-wizards monstrosity though...

It should be that way, just like Wayne Gretzky number is retired throughout the NHL.

MJ had a major impact on the league, greater than anyone who played the game.

I respect the Miami franchise for doing so.

I think the Heat retiring MJ Jersey is actually pretty cool but not into the whole half jersey thing, should be just Bulls.

Im not 100% sure but didn't retiring MJ's number have to do with Micky Arison as well??

If the league didn't retire his number it makes no sense for miami to do it.
