Gay, Conley and 5th pick for Beasley?

Post#1 » by Vladiators » Fri Jun 27, 2008 3:48 pm

As I was watching the pre-draft show on T.V last night I heard the "panel" say that Miami was offered Rudy Gay, Mike Conley Jr. and the 5th pick for the 2nd pick from Miami! I almost choked on my meatloaf when I heard this! What a steal for Miami. If this is true, which i think it is because it came from the panel in the pre-draft show, who is more stupid? Memphis for offering this or Miami for rejecting this? What is wrong with the GM for Memphis? First he gives up Pao Gasol for Peanuts, then he offers this? Why does he still have a Job. I am neither a Memphis or Miami fan but I am still angered by this? Rudy gay is a MONSTER, Conley is a 4th overall pick with potential to be a good starting PG and Kevin Love will be a SOLID PF in this league. Any comments on this?

this is old news, was discussed by everyone in the draft thread yesterday

it was a Heat counteroffer and the Grizz didn't bite

Pat Riley should have saved his breath with this offer. Its such a slap in the face! But I guess who wouldn't try with Memphis's GM after what he got back for Pao! What a joke.

Chris Wallace will never do Riley any favors. When he was a top talent evaluator here, he had a chance to be the Boston GM and riley tried to block it and ask for major compensation. And while i agree that is good business on riley's behalf, you have to figure there is lingering anger there and it manifests into things like this.

I say that would have been far worse than the Gasol trade.

You imagine:

Wade, Gay, Marion, Mayo, and Conley on the same team? That's youth, and great talent. That would pulling a Boston Celtics.

I don't think it was a slap in the face at all. The original offer, Mike Miller, Kyle Lowry, and the 28th pick, was every bit as insulting, but heavily slanted in Memphis' favor...

Nobody even close to as good as Beasley was available at #5, the 2 guys they offered are decent, but still not good enough to give up Beasley.

I'm glad we took Beasley and Chalmers, they are better than Gay, Conley and Love(taken #5).

Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry? You'd have traded Michael Beasley for that?

Remember, Riley's the one who asked for Conley and Gay. That wasn't the Grizz's offer...

That's too much I think, I'd rather have Gay & Conley over Beasley.

I'd rather have Beasley playing with Wade than Gay and Conley. Beasley is more than likely going to be a an almost irreplaceable dominating force in the league, Gay and Conley are good talents, but are more easily replaceable.

You win championships with talents like Beasley. Gay and Conley on the other hand only made the Grizzlies tie with the Wolves for the 3rd worst record in the league.

^the wolves also dont have a 1st class front office (like we do), dont have a superster player/building block in the mold of a dwyane wade (we do) etc.

they are a LOT of positives of a Conely/Wade/Gay/Marion lineup just as they are of a Wade/Marion/Beasley lineup.
