Heat intetrested in re-signing R. Davis?

Post#1 » by Hoops23 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 1:53 pm

Miami Herald
Riley said the Heat has an interest in re-signing swingman Ricky Davis, who becomes a free agent July 1.

''We don't have shooters, we don't have players that have his kind of ability,'' Riley said. ``It depends on where we are financially and how we look at our future.''

Davis repeatedly has said he would like to remain with the Heat but prefers a multiyear deal.

I like what Riley said of bringing Davis back, that it depends on financial and future outlook.

I think if Davis will agree for a 1 year deal, he will be signed back. Davis will bring depth to the team.

BTW, according to CBS Sports NBA player rankings, Ricky Davis leads the top free agent shooting guards. I think this will help Davis free agent value, and Miami might get a player through a S & T for him.

As much as people may not like him, he does bring depth so I can see him getting resigned. Just to back up Wade.

A S&T for Davis would be awesome, maybe we could throw Banks in as well for an expiring deal.

Perhaps Davis and Banks for Joe Smith and Damon Jones????

Cleveland could be desperate enough for a second option to do it.

didnt Cleveland already have Ricky in Lebron's first year? As I recall there was a reason they got rid of Ricky, either he wasn't meshing with Bron or they felt he was stunting him, something like that

Yeah they had him, I'm not sure what the reason was that they got rid of him, but I don't think it was because of conflict concerns between the two.

Whatever the reason is though, Cleveland I think could be desperate enough to do such a deal. Ricky Davis is the best SG in FA and looks good on paper next to Lebron. I say "on paper" because in reality, Ricky Davis will get good stats, but he will not win games. Which is why we should not keep him.

A S&T would be great, as would a 1 year deal with him.

But, I don't see him being worth MLE type money when we can 'possibly' get something of need with the money at another position; C or SF (depending if Marion is traded).

Please, I'd rather spend that money on someone like Udrih (full MLE?) or Barnes (short term deal, but at more than half MLE). Ricky Davis is crazy.

I think the MLE will be use for a PG and/or a center.
Isn't it better to have Ricky for 1 season and the player signed for the MLE than the player signed for the MLE alone?

He's a nice scorer, why not want him back?

Take too many ill-advised shots IMO.

Ughhh I'd hate to see him back playing for the Heat, but I guess I'd be able to tolerate him if he was signed for only one year. Better him then Kwame Brown.

Edit: actually no because he would be a bad influence on Beasley.

People here are acting as if he was our worst player, when in fact he was probably our best player last season.

He didn't whine/moan/groan or complain about anything, granted the season we just had, it would've made sense if he would, but he didn't.

If we can sign him to a decent deal, or s&t him, I'm all for it.

Come on guys, he wasn't that bad. One year will be fine with me. Just as long as he is gone for 2010 when we really get some good players :ohgodihopesoemoticon:

Exactly. And like I said, he adds more depth at the SG position. He didn't get into any trouble (i.e Smush) so I don't see the problem with resigning.
