Record Watch: 0-17

Miami has the record for worst start in NBA history at 0-17 (from our expansion season). The Clippers tied this in 1999.

Right now, the Nets are 0-17 and are playing the Mavs. If they lose, we will never have to hear the Heat's 0-17 brought up again as the worst ever each time a season starts and some random team goes winless.

This isn't a record we want to keep.

The Nets were down by as much as 30 I believe, but now are down 20 in the 3rd. Let's go Mavs!

Going to take an epic comeback to avoid disaster. Sorry for the Nets, but I'll be happy to see someone else take the record.

I think the 20+ years have been kind to that inaugural Heat team, to the point where it's relatively easy to sell them as an endearing (dare I say, admirable?*) group of hard-working, well-meaning players that were just in way over their heads. We had a plan -- build through the draft; cultivate our own young talent; bypass malcontent veterans -- and we stuck to it.

So I hope time is as merciful on the Nets as it was on us. Because as it stands right now, even with all of their injuries, this 0-18 start stands as a testament to how worthless and moribund the Nets have been since its inception.

* "Admirable" is a bit strong.
