I hate how good this song is.

Ryan Adams is the Kevin Porter Jr. of musicians. Separate the art from the artist.

He's the Cam Thomas of music. Volume shooter, pretty good at what he does, only does one thing.

This will be Tennis' last album. I've always enjoyed them and their retro style.

I really like-don't-love-it so far. Like...the thing I've liked most from them since Suburbs, but still not at that level. I think what I was hoping for while listening is that the song was a crescendo to something big at the end, and it just levels off instead. Maybe in the proceeding track.

I admit, though, that I expect to be let down. I think AF jumped the shark long ago, and I won't trust a return until it's actually proven.

Not really surprising. The playlist I follow on Spotify has 162 songs. All amazing.

Listening to the full album now and I'm pretty in step with you.

This album is very subdued and maybe has some Beck/Pixies sort of influence. Nothing grandiose. I like the songs they released early ("Year of the Snake/""Pink Elephant"). "I Love Her Shadow" is really solid. I'm a sucker for some good ambient opening/interlude sort of stuff, so that's fine.

In general, I didn't like the disco turn that a lot of bands of the early 2000s took ~5-10 years ago. So I disliked some elements of Reflektor and Everything Now.

But yes, if I'm giving on a score of 10, I'd say their albums have now gone:
Funeral: 10
Neon Bible: 9.5
Suburbs: 10
Reflektor: 8
Everything Now: 3
We: 6
Pink Elephant: 5?

It's solid but Arcade Fire is Arcade Fire because of the grandiose stuff. Seems like Win lost some energy from the infidelity/sexual misconduct stuff. Pretty much anything after Reflektor has been on par with some run-of-the-mill indie/alt band puts out. Nothing sets them apart on these last few.

Yeah...this could be in the upper crust of AF songs for me. Maybe not on the Mount Rushmore - but it has that catchy beat and twists and turns of Afterlife.

Beyond that. Like I said - the 2 they released as singles and the ambient stuff is fine. The rest is whatever.

His new music hasn't grabbed me yet (which makes me feel weird). I need to spend some more time with it.

My beloved has suggested to me that his voice is so, so distinctive that some of his solo music can sound a little like weaker The National (apart from El Vy, which was quite the departure).

Sly Stone passed. Amazing he made it to 82.

Sly: Stevie :: Small Talk: Hotter Than July

Neither regarded as top-tier albums in their discography, but damn if I don't reach for each one more often than the canonical releases.

Most idiosyncratic conception of rhythm of his time and the clearest throughline that existed for Prince. Probably not the first, but definitely the earliest high-profile adopter of drum machines into his music in a substantive way. Certified titan.
