Deron Williams, Josh Howard and Kaman should be there.

A SG wouldn't have been needed to be picked. Just pick another guard or a SF. Sticking so rigidly to picking All Stars by position is how good players get left off. I would've taken Jefferson or Calderon easily over Johnson.

Johnson is not having that great of a season in my opinion. The thing is the Hawks absolutely deserved to have at least one player taken since they have been such a great story this year and Johnson was probably their most deserving player (maybe Josh Smith could've been picked instead but I'd take Johnson of the two).
Nothing will not break me.

Just curious. Why did you get his autograph twice?

The first one washed off in the shower. Remember, this is Redd and Jeremy we're talking about. :P

Yeah, sorry I worded that confusing. I meant I would've thought Smith should've made it over Johnson.

Joe Johnson is one of the best sg's in the league, surpassed only by Wade, Kobe, and McGrady when healthy. He has sf size and pg skills, a sweet jumper, solid defense, and the ability to get to the basket at will. He could easily be scoring over 25 ppg but he's on a team with other scorers so he doesn't take it upon himself to do that. Last year he did.

He's certainly more deserving than that one pg who got there on reputation alone, I forget his name but he's shooting 35% which might be the worst shooting for any starting pg in history let alone an all-star, and his team is horrible despite the fact that he plays with two wings putting up legit all-star numbers and a few young big men showing a lot of promise, in a pathetic conference that offers little competition no less. JoJo or Rip should have been the other starter with Calderon off the bench, that guy has been more efficient than Stockton in his best years.

Oh yeah, Baron Davis should have been there instead of West but coaches didn't want to vote in 3 back-up pg's and wanted to reward West for NO's good season, despite the fact that he is not as important to them as Baron is to GSW.

Well how bout I give it a shot. Virtually everyone here, including me, would agree that our very own Michael Redd does not deserve an allstar birth, so let's compare JJ's numbers with those of a definite non allstar in Redd.

JJ
21.3 PPG
18.5 Shots pg
40.9% FG
33.9% 3 point FG
4.4 rebounds pg
5.4 assists pg
2.6 TO's pg

Redd
22.9 PPG
17.1 Shots pg
44.3% FG
37.3% 3 point FG
4.7 rebounds pg
3.6 assists pg
2.5 TO's pg

So Redd averages easily more points off easily less shots, has a higher FG%, a higher 3point%, more rebounds and less turnovers (he's also higher in both steals and blocks but they are pretty close).
In fact the ONLY category that JJ leads in is assists by 1.8pg, which is great, but doesn't even go close to offsetting Redd's comfortable lead in virtually every other department.

Now like I said earlier we (I think) all agree that Redd doesn't deserve to be an allstar, most of us would say he wasn't even close. So tell me again how in the hell Joe Johnson does?

Joe Johnson runs there halfcourt offense, much better facilitator, team leader, and defender. Joe Johnson is also on a better team then the Milwaukee Bucks.

JJ running their half court offense would explain his higher assist rate, however shouldn't explain the fact that he takes more shots on less points than our very own ballhogging chucker Redd. If he's their defacto pg, who wants a pg shooting it 18.5 times a game at just on 40%? He is a slightly better defender than Redd, but he's no lockdown guy. And the better team thing - their well below .500 now, so whilst he's on a slightly better team he's not on a good team, we're not talking about the Celtics here.

I should be clear I'm not making a case for Redd, I'm making one against Joe Johnson.

I wouldn't knock Johnsons defense, he may not be lock-down but I think he is extremely versatile, able to guard 3-4 positions.

I was surprised to see after the fact that Arenas had Johnson on his own list before they were announced. He said Johnson could have scored more (and did last year) but played more for the team.

Then he also said Baron should make it over Roy because Roy was 20-5 and is that an all-star now? Meanwhile Roy's numbers are really pretty close to Johnson's. I guess with this East so weak, it's not surprising there are a couple fringe seasons like Hamilton's and Johnson's on the team.

This was a great chance for Redd, if he could've kept it closer to what his first month was like we'd probably have a few more wins to help him out too. Blew it, and hopefully he knows that when he sees the SGs on the roster.

Sometimes Arenas says some weird stuff, but players know players and talk about others' games so rarely that it was interesting to me to see his opinions.
