The current rumors are that Cuban wanted Shaq so bad, that he was willing to include Josh Howard.

Considering the events of the last 48 hours, and the surefire scramble that will happen between now and the trade deadline... wouldn't it make more sense for the Mavs to aquire Redd than Kidd?

Kidd gives the Mavs veteran savvy, a couple easy buckets a game, and decent defender against big point guards. But he really doesn't add much more than a sliver to the Mavs current chances. And he hurts their title chances long term (anything beyond this year). It's not like he gives them a guy who will hit big shots over Golden State or LA.

If the Mavs were to agree to trade Howard for Redd... they keep Devin Harris (worth his weight in gold against Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Baron Davis, etc) and they add another killer shooter to team with Dirk and Terry.

Devin, Terry, Redd, Dirk, and Damp/Diopp is a killer lineup. Much better (IMO) than Kidd, Terry, Howard, Dirk and Damp/Diopp.

Josh Howard for Michael Redd makes BOTH teams better. Thoughts?

Nah. Miami wants Mo, not Redd, and will take Simmons to get him. Adding that big contract makes it all work despite Mo's BYC status.

Mo/Simmons/filler for J-Will/Davis/Cook/Wright works for both teams and the Bucks shouldn't be thinking about giving up Redd for Cook and Wright anyway, give me a break. Miami might even pay some of the outgoing salary to get Mo. It's not our money but saving money now would make Kohl more willing to spend when they have a chance at being good again, so that does affect the fans.

Bucks can probably trade Redd for a top 7 pick this summer - think Philly which will have enough cap space to absorb most of his contract and send back a good pick in return. Trades like that happen all the time, twice this past year in fact (Ray Allen and Jason Richardson netted top 8 picks in a deep draft so Redd in his prime is worth more than what you suggest).

My trade is a good salary dump for the Bucks. Miami could get to the playoffs with Mo, Wade and Marion if Wade is 100%, and if not they at least get something for those expiring deals and come back next year with a team they'll really like. They really need to deal those guys and the Bucks need to rebuild.

This also happens to be the type of trade that Larry Harris would actually have a chance of getting oked by Kohl (who has already shown many times his extreme distaste for any transaction that would have the Bucks taking on salary).

If the Suns/Heat trade goes through, I see an opportunity for the Bucks to step in and take advantage of a Heat team whose GM (Pat Riley) seems desperate to avoid being forced to rebuild in the wake of Shaq's rapid decline. I expect the Heat to attempt to make another move to bring in a third star player who is a proven shooter/scorer which would serve to give the Heat a "Big Three" with a varied skillset to build around (for next season, presumably). The Bucks have such a player, so here is a trade I would advocate that cuts the Bucks' salary total almost in half for next season (from 62 million to 34 million) putting us more than twenty million dollars under the cap for 2008/09-

Miami trades--
Jason Williams, Ricky Davis, Alonzo Mourning, Dorrell Wright, Smush Parker, and Daequan Cook.

Milwaukee trades--
Michael Redd, Bobby Simmons, Dan Gadzuric, and our 2008 first round draft pick (top three protected in 2008 and unprotected in 2009 [if the Bucks win the lottory this year]).

Besides the clear benefit of getting rid of all that salary (Daequan Cook is the only Heat player included in this deal with a contract that is not expiring, and his has only two years left at just over 1 million a season), this trade also nets us a developing 22 yr old prospect at SF in Dorrell Wright who the Bucks could test drive for the rest of the season, not to mention that this trade would give the Bucks a great chance to put Bill Simmons' "Ewing Theory" to the test. As far as "salary dump" trades go, I challange anyone to come up with a better trade (that works under CBA restrictions) and that has a realistic chance of being accepted by the other team (assuming that you agree that this one has a realistic chance of being accepted by the Heat).

I eagerly await reading all of the malicious, disparaging posts I am sure this trade proposal will inspire. :]

This is one of the worst trades that I have ever seen on this board. D you even want the Bucks to win??

Well, what this year has taught us is that we might be drafting in the top five WITH Redd, so my question for you is why you want to be a 30-35 win team with an outside shot at the playoffs for the next couple of years with a team salary of over 60 million a season when we could be a 30-35 win team with an outside shot at the playoffs for the next couple of years with a team salary of 45 million. At least in the latter scenario we can save money and maintain financial flexibility while our young players develop. Plus, even if we are never able to lure a top tier free agent to Milwaukee, at least we could trade for a top tier player without having to match salaries (or maybe even receive a gift from a team with a good player who just wants to dump that players large contract ala Memphis and Pau).

If you've read any of my posts around here you'll see I want Redd traded and I want to stink so we can rebuild threw the draft. I've also wrote "get good or get bad but the worst thing to do is get average". Your trade gets rid of Redd (which I said I liked) but you also give away our high lottery pick. As a bunch of others have told you, you can't rebuild when you're giving away high picks. We need to trade Redd for picks...not trade Redd and give our picks away.

The draft picks are only valuable if the GM doing the picking knows what they are doing....Harris and Kohl do not.

But to show the value, think of the "throw-in" number one that we had to send to Houston/Denver to get them to accept Scott Williams contract to allow us to then have the payroll room to sign Anthony Mason.

That pick ended up being the #18 pick in the 2004 draft and Josh Smith.......

I know this is probably hard for you to understand, but an important part of proposing a trade that actually has a chance of happening involves giving up enough to make the other team WANT to make the trade. 90% of trades that are proposed on this board might look better than this one (for the Bucks), but for that very reason they have no chance of happening because the other team is getting ripped off (or at least are not getting enough back for them to be willing to pull the trigger, because GMs as a general rule tend to be very risk-averse when it comes to trades). Yes, you are correct to point out that this trade probably doesn't make the Bucks a better team (in the short run), but that is not the purpose of this type of trade. The purpose of this type of trade is to CLEAR 85 MILLION DOLLARS+ OF SALARY OFF OF THE BUCKS PAYROLL OVER THE NEXT THREE SEASONS.

I definitely agree that it is critically important for this franchise place a very high value on its' 1st round picks, it's just that I would be more than willing to part with a couple important assets (including a 1st rounder, if necessary) if it meant that the Bucks would be able to clear 30 million dollars of salary by next season.
