Make the 'Basketball Play...' Please!

Post#1 » by MilBucksBackOnTop06 » Thu Feb 7, 2008 10:44 am

The other day Tracy McGrady came to the defense of LeBron James when he learned that many were criticizing LeBron for not taking the last shots in games when they are on the line...and instead passing the ball to his teamates.

TMac made an interesting comment and rebuttual when he suggested that Lebron makes 'basketball plays.' I in turn thought about that and I know exactly what he means and agree totally with him.

Both Tracy and LeBron have learn how to make basketball plays at the right time to help their team win and make those around them better and their coaching staffs smarter.

Then I looked at our outfit here in Milwaukee and wonder why we do not have the same type of allottment of players and focus on our squad?

I define a guy or gal or player who is adept at making winning basketball plays as a major asset and not many teams have them.

This is a term that is defined loosely by some but I see it as a guy who makes off the ball plays that do not always show up in the box score that tilt the game to his teams advantage.

A tight screen, a loose ball, being able to draw a foul, make a clear entry pass, knowing when to dribble and not to, reset and or communicate on a switch, knowing how or when to dive, flop, foul, lead a break, follow through on a screen or any number of things...saving or blocking the ball on your side of the floor to trigger the break, ...

Guys like Manu Ginobili, Gerald Wallace, Grant Hill and Steve Nash, Baron Davis, DWade and Andres Nocioni and even our Andrew Bogut and many others...

Deron Williams, Boozer, Harpring, Korver, Brad Miller and Bibby in Sac town and Chris Paul and David West, Brandon Roy, Blake, and Jack in Portland...Kobe, Walton, Fisher, and at times Odom in LA...and Cassell when the game is on the line is perhaps the best at it...along with JKidd.

We lack anyone to do that on a consistent basis except perhaps Mason and Bogut from what I see.

Basketball plays and playmakers do not come a dime a dozen. One can make him or herself into one and some just have that wired into their games...

Oh that we might see more of that from our team...
