Well, looking at the FAQ I don't see any reference to the 1-for-1 thing, but I also wasn't part of that initial discussion, so I can't comment on what GAD might or might not have said. As usual I'd defer to him on that. Looking only at the FAQ it seems like a 3-for-1 deal could work. Obviously we don't have anyone listed who could be traded straight up for him, so if GAD did say that then it wouldn't work.
You are incorrect on this point fam
Marion for Redd straight up works FYI

Because we know 100% now that this team as currently constructed will not work, esepcially the Mo/Redd backcourt. We also might not have to give up Yi to get Marion this time.
I would definitely consider giving up Redd or this year's pick if it meant a real shot at Marion----assuming we were very confident we could resign him. He certainly would be "the man" here.

When I said "listed" I meant the players being mentioned in the trade; I didn't think Redd was being discussed. I guess I wasn't being clear.
In other words, if the 1-for-1 thing was required, then you might be able to get around it by breaking the deal into multiple parts so long as individually it worked. If Redd was in the package then yes you could do Redd/Marion and then do a separate trade of CV or whoever for some garbage on Miami that matched. But if you were doing Marion for Bobby/Mo/CV then there isn't a one-for-one deal you could do for Marion and then get the other two guys in a separate move that matched salaries but not talent.
Whew...can't believe we're writing so much about a deal that won't ever happen

adamcz wrote:fam, that doesn't clear up all the confusion unless I'm reading it wrong. Miami has to trade Marion by himself. But can they accept back a combination of players for him? Or does it have to be 1 for 1? I thought I remember GAD saying it has to be 1 for 1, but I could be inventing things. This doesn't seem to say one way or the other.
1) Miami does NOT have to trade Marion by himself
2) They can accept multiple players coming back from one or more teams
3) I've never, ever said ANY trade had to be a 1-for-1 trade. I do chime in on that topic whenever I see it mentioned it, and I attempt to dispel the myth of a 1-for-1 trade ever being required in any circumstance
The only restriction is that for two months, you cannot aggregate the salary of the newly acquired player with any of your other salaries. That does not require separate trades if Miami wants to trade other players at the same time they are trading Marion. They can make it all one trade. You just have to be able to dissect the trade and be able to separate out Marion from other Heat players, and then have all of those trade parts be able to theoretically work separately.

Im sure NY would rather have Dez.
Swap Dez and Simmons in the Miami deal... either way both deals get done.
How much does Marion make?
Mo/ Dez/ and CV adds up to around 14-15 million.... thats not within 125% of what Marion makes?
Nope. Mo/Dez/CV package is not within 125%
Mo/Simmons/CV would absolutely be an allowable trade though (well, it would have been prior to the trading deadline). Without understanding this issue, adam should have waited for clarification before getting on you and rafer about this.

Who cares! This team is done and in a sorry state.
He's talking about a draft day deal, obviously. Either way, the Bucks aren't going to trade a top ten pick for a PF, when they already have one in Yi that will be better than Haslem by next year without question.

just wondering, would you guys consider trading your # 1 pick come draft time if it stays at #8 for haslem

he is worth a mid-late 1st, not a top 10 draft pick. There are people with waay more potential in the draft. Especially this one

I NEVER ever comment on or make trade threads. But I just couldn't let this one slide. Come on man.
