I'm surprised the over/under for tonights game between these two teams was only 209.5
If i still gambled a lot, this game should have been an easy choice. I only flipped back to the game here and there, but man this was a battle of the marshmallow soft giants.

...Plays well? When have they "played well?"midranger wrote:I don't understand why we can't get excited when our team plays well.
This is not playing well, this is playing 'passable' basketball! The Rockets are playing 'well' my friend!
Put a streak together! Like Portland, like the Blazers and Hawks even...
then come talk to me.
Not one game...

But I do wonder about his judgment. No problem with his shooting, since he was left open. But with every basket he seemed to feel empowered to shoot from farther and farther out. As if that's where he really wants to be, if only he can avoid coach's criticism. I don't know, strikes me his idea of optimum basketball (even though he's trying to play an all-around game, and sorta does in his fashion) sedrves CV a little more than it serves the team. At the end of the night, his shooting percentage wasn't great.
Kukoc was the same way, possibly worse. He pretty much lived at the 3-point line even though his percentage was usually sub-par. He went inside a lot less than CV, but his all-around talent made the Bucks better, period. It just wasn't evident in statistics. He was a match-up nightmare.
CV needs to play some sf and then I think you'd see him score inside more because he'd have more favorable match-ups. As a pf his advantage is pulling other pf's out to the perimeter, and if he plays pf exclusively you will always have this problem of him shooting too many 3's.

I think CV's sudden increase in 3 pt jumpers and his recent tendency to hang out at the perimeter is a direct consequence of the stotts offence that Mo and Redd have asked LK to use. If you observe, before the infamous locker room meeting and the subsequent decision to use stotts offence happened, CV was constantly playing and hanging around inside the paint or close to it. He was constantly posting up and going to the basket. Eversince the stotts offense has come around, CV has been hanging out at the perimeter, and jacking up jumpers after jumpers.
I think LK wanted a half court style of basketball with his bigs posting up and the PG's feeding them the ball. It didn't rest well with the guards and now we're back to last year where CV hardly ever posted up and just hung around the 3-pt line.

CV's "sudden increase" in three point shooting is really a one-game thing. He was attempting threes at a much higher rate earlier in the season.
If you count the Hornets game as the first of the supposed "return to Stotts offense" games then look at CV's attempts: 2/12 from three point range in the seven games before yesterday when he went 3/6. That's 1.7 attempts/game before last night, which is fewer attempts than he averaged in any month before February (when he averaged 1.7/game). Also keep in mind that he's been playing much more in the last month than in the first 50 games or so, which means his rate of shooting threes is even lower.
He happened to make some jumpers last night and then started shooting threes as well. But it really isn't very representative of how he's been playing of late.

I thought he played very well. He did a great job of moving the ball and finding the open man. I pretty much expect him to get no credit in this forum for playing well.

Loved the around-the-back pass to CV on the break. Redd NEVER used to pass the ball in two-on-one type situations...he would always at least try to draw the foul. But it seems like he's been passing in those kinds of situations lately.
That's one thing Redd needs to realize...it's one thing if he shoots a lot but makes his teammates feel like he will also give it up when they're open. It's another thing if he's shooting a lot and it looks like he's only trying to pad his scoring totals.

Redd continues to be the Bucks most valuable player. When Redd left with his injury, I think that Bogut had 20 points and Villanueva had 30. They combined for only 3 more points the rest of the way. I might be off by a basket or two, but they were pretty much shut down after Redd left. In the last 17 minutes of the game, the Bucks became a jump shooting team that resembled the tanking unit of last season.
I think that the Bucks are passing the ball better than they have in years. Villanueva has been a big part of improved ball movement. CV is so much better for ball movement than Yi.
I thought that Bogut had one of the best games that I have ever seen him play. He was active on both ends of the court. The only blemish was the woeful foul line shooting that helped the Sonics get close at the end.
