If we landed Rose, that means we're likely headed in an uptempo direction.

The rest of our personnel doesn't really fit that, and there would be big changes forthcoming.

adamcz wrote:GAD, I think no matter what Yi's real age is, anyone involved will have to take the Chinese government's official answer as the gospel.

I used to think that was the case as well, but it is not so.

adamcz wrote: Nobody from the NBA would have launched an investigation to prove China wrong, even if they thought it was unlikely that they were being truthful. They don't have a staff of intelligence analysts ready to tackle a project like that.

In this case, the NBA is actually tasked to do just that per their agreements with DHS.

If there is something they are not comfortable vouching for (such as DOB) their recourse is to not process his NBA contract until they have notified DHS that this particular contract should not be a qualification for automatic granting of a P-1 visa.

I'd guess that Dikembe, ZaZa, Ersan, and Yi among others need to pack their bags and head back to their home countries. 8)

Dikembe and Zaza don't count as the current agreements and procedures were not yet in place when those players signed their first NBA contracts. Only those players are on the line for the information on their visa applications, not the NBA. Things are a bit tighter now.

Only recently (middle of last week) did I get the last bits of detailed information regarding the minutiae of the issue of visas for foreign nationals playing in the NBA. I hadn't had the chance to bring it up yet, but since it came up in this thread, it seemed like the time to mention it rather than waiting longer.

paulpressey25 wrote:GAD, I understand the "legal ramifications" of something like this. But I'd doubt the guy would ever get deported if the age were proven, much less the NBA face any serious sanctions.

I think the more germane part of it is that all of these players already many years ago have created a "story" in their home countries that they are a certain age.....and all of them get drafted with that "age" as the official record. From a practical standpoint, once you've started going down the "I'll lie about my age" path, you can't turn the ship around.

As Adamcz said, the NBA isn't going to bother to enforce this stuff nor try to find out the actual truth. It isn't in their best interests to do so based on the relationships they need to cultivate with these players and their countries. It just doesn't serve any point. Let the buyer beware. And so it is.

You guys can make light of this all you want, but I am telling you it is a serious issue and is viewed that way by the NBA League Office in New York, among the NBA's Washington D.C. lobbyists, at DHS, and in the House.

The fairness or lack thereof of being granted a visa is a big issue these days and the entire bureaucracy involved is under a microscope. It fits right into the broader debate on immigration, border security, etc.

So GAD by what your saying you think if it is proven that Yi is 23 that the NBA would get in HUGE trouble? I really doubt it.

Didn't Yi take a BonAge test that said he was about 20?

Apart from that, we know that he hasn't been playing organized basketball for very long. He's come a long way in a relatively short period of time. He should have a long way to go yet.

What happens if we get Rose for Yi and Bogut? Then we have a **** front court. Beside expensive players in Mo,Redd,Simmons,Gadz,Dez. Still a crappy team that needs a few more trades. How we gonna get a big out of this? A front line of CV and GADZ would make it for a long season. Even if you went small ball with a Rose,Mo,Redd,CV,Gadz. Also i'm not in favor of taking on crappy players and contracts. We already have a few of those on this roster. We had the chance to get rid of those but Kohl refused. But this kinda deal is the step in the right direction to add a superstar next to Redd. If a Yi and Bogut for Rose went down. I could see a Randolph trade resurfacing here for our other garbage in Gadz,Simmons,Bell.

Rose,Mo,Redd,CV,Randolph. Plus if we get to keep our #7 out of the deal we might get lucky on Mayo but I doubt it.

Maybe lady luck will finally shine down upon us bucks fans and land us the number one pick.

Then we'd have a young trio of Rose/Yi/Bogut to builid around.

I wouldn't, I was just saying that taking a C or PF would be the way to go.

In order of preference I'd do:

1 - #7 and [CV/Redd/Mo]
2 - #7 and a future #1
3 - Bogut
4 - Bogut and [CV/Redd/Mo]

I wouldn't do

Bogut and #7/Yi

Fixed.

Don't get me wrong, I want Rose too. But with Mo having signed a long-term contract last year and a gaping hole at SF, I fully expect the Bucks to pick Beasley if they get the #1.

Everyone I've talked to about Yi thinks he was born in 1984 or 1985, making him 22, 23.

Special special special special player.

If there is anyone above who has any kindness for the Bucks they will figure out a way for the Bucks to get Derrick Rose on draft night.
Nothing will not break me.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
