43% from the field and 29% from three... these are not quality numbers. Throw in the fact that he goes to the line roughly once for every five field goal attempts and you have a player whose reputation for good offense is based more on style and a handful of standout performances than on substance. The fact is, he's below average on offense and bad on defense. I still think he's a talented player and a nice guy, but the performance is just not there.
All that said, apart from too many spot up threes, his game doesn't really resemble TT's at all, although rebounding aside the results are similar.

I wasn't comparing the two in terms of game (although Villanueva like Thomas does fall in love with the perimeter game too much) but rather in approach. Villanueva, like Thomas before him, has major motivational issues. That's where I've always believed the comparison was spot on.
