In response to MRF's post above:

-I think that the difference between Kohl and all the other meddling owners is that Kohl has the pre-existing power structure that any GM must work through BEFORE things even get to Kohl.

GAD has done a nice job here in past posts presenting how guys like Ron Walter do jobs that are really the job of the GM. For example, Larry might start talking contract with an agent. Then Ron Walter might call up the same agent and continue or change the negotiations. Sometimes Ron Walter will start negotiations without the GM even knowing about it.

And Kohl's other two inner circle guys, Mike Burr the CFO and John Steinmiller also get in on these discussions.

Yet there is no clear public heirarchy. Before the GM here can get slapped by the owner, he's got to go through a meddling committee who the owner has installed precisely because he does not want his GM to have autonomy and accidentally make a "costly decision" in the mind of Kohl.

The problem is that with no clear and publicly transparent heirarchy there is chaos. If an agent doesn't like what he hears from the GM he can go to Ron Walter. If a player doesn't like what he hears from the coach, he can go to the GM or to Walter or many of them directly go to Kohl.

The whole cluster **** completely neutralizes any effective management or discipline in the organization. As another example, Bobby and Mo can act out against Larry K. because they know Larry K. has no power and they know Larry Harris has no power....they know if the coach yells at them, they just go to Uncle Herb who then takes them out to lunch and kisses their ass. The authority of the coach is completely undermined.

Everyone's authority in the Bucks front office and coaching staff is completely undermined by Kohl and fellow employees.

This situation will still be THE WORST ownership and management structure in the NBA until Kohl hires a true team president or GM tells that person they are the clear second in command and everyone underneath them reports to this person. This person then is the ONLY direct report to Kohl.

But Herb will never do that.....he's too afraid of someone "screwing" him over with a bad decision......so he uses the messed up power structure to not only prevent this, but also it gives him scapegoats to fire when Herb and Walters decisions fail.

The thing i don't get about Kohl is i think he really does desperately want to see the Bucks win a lot of games. The Bucks to Herb aren't just some investment holding of a very rich man that the guy doesn't care much about except for making money on a sale.

Herb also has run a very successful business besides the Bucks. So i just don't get why he can't seem to grasp that his way of running the team is a big reason for the lack of winning? Can't he see that his search for a good GM is being hurt badly because of his meddling ways?

If Kohl was more a Donald Sterling type that didn't care much about winning, i could understand him not being bothered that his meddling his helping prevent his goal of winning from happening.

Herb isn't a stupid man, i just don't get it

This makes it sound like somebody in the Bucks' organization tried to nail Hammond's wife or something.

LH was already fired.
