Yeah that sounds right, and I believe you can find an extension for the blaster cable if you need it.

I'll also say that it's nice not having to worry about line of sight while using it. No bending your wrist into weird angles because the coffee table is blocking you, or having to take your arm out from under the blanket when it's freezing. There are some quirks to using a universal remote, but overall I like it a lot.

Do you feel like there is latency between the wifi and blaster? Or is it pretty instantaneous for the user?

Ok guys I am going to be jumping into PC gaming for the first time. I am coming from an XBOX one and am not comfortable building my own so will be buying pre built preferably from best buy as I can use my best buy card. I will be hooking the tv up to my 65 inch Samsung KS8000 4k HDR tv and it will be primarily used for gaming.

*Id like to go with an I7 6th gen or 7th gen (From what I understand the main difference in 6th and 7th gen is the ability to streak 4k but I have my xbox one s for that)

* Id like to have 16 gb ddr4 memory

* Id like to go with a GTX 1080 but could be talked into a 1070 if you think a 1080 is too much

Here are the 2 computers I am looking at so far:

Alienware Aurora R5- 6th gen I7, 16 gb ram, gtx 1080 $1439.99

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/alienware-aurora-r5-desktop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-256gb-solid-state-drive-2tb-hard-drive-silver/5648000.p?skuId=5648000&productCategoryId=

IBUYPOWER 7th gen I7, 16 gb ram, gtx 1080

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ibuypower-desktop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-240gb-solid-state-drive-2tb-hard-drive-black-red/5600310.p?skuId=5600310

Any help in making this decision would be greatly appreciated!

That requirement that we need a 7th gen i7 sucks so hard since the GTX 1060-80 all have 10-bit HEVC decoding capabilities.

I don’t notice any perceptible latency when changing channels/navigating menus/adjusting volume, and stuff like that. The one thing that may seem odd, especially if you are new to Logitech universal remotes, is that the control sets things up in “activities.” So if you want to watch tv, you hit the corresponding button and it runs a sequence that turns on the tv, amp, cable box, and switches the input. This can sometimes take a few seconds (and you can add delay seconds so that the tv has time to warm up before the imput change is sent). It can take some getting used to. Once the control is set to the activity, though, every button press seems instantaneous to me.

Okay, question, because I tend to hear differing opinions on this.

I have an older wifi router - Netgear WGR614. Runs on a 802.11g, so not the newest standard. Also doesn't give me the 5 GHz channel option. I've noticed that my ping is anywhere from 9-11 during the evenings, dl speeds anywhere from 6-17mpbs, upload steady around 5 mbps. I have Charter, and they claim their service offers 60mpbs dl speeds. I don't think I've ever seen that in Madison. I have eight-10 devices connected to it at any one point in time.

Do you think I'd see a noticeable upgrade in speed performance if I bought a new router?

You should check out Wirecutter, if you haven't already. Their top recommendation is actually on sale today. Use promo code 15TPLPC1 to knock it down to $79.

You must have figured out already that I also rely on Kinja Deals, which is what made me think about this. They had another really well-reviewed router, the NetGear Nighthawk AC1750, on sale a couple days ago for $67 - about $45 cheaper that normal - which I ordered on a whim in anticipation of returning it if it didn't make a significant difference for me.

But the broader question I've been wrestling with is whether I should expect to see a noticeable difference, or whether that's just a Charter problem and not a router problem.

I'm still playing Fire Emblem Heroes multiple times a day. It's held up. Haven't paid a penny. I can see how if you wanted to sit down and play for an hour at a time multiple times a day that it wouldn't hold up, but my schedule hasn't allowed for that lately, and I would rather not do that with mobile anyway. It's been perfect for me.

Had no idea there was a Berserk video game coming out. Must get.

Well, in case anyone else was wondering, my new router tripled (and even quadrupled at points) my download speed. Amazing. My ping was even better, too, but only by a couple milliseconds.

Yeah, Kotaku gave it a thumps up in their glowing review today.

I'd consider picking it up, but I've figured out that those kinds of games just don't appeal to me. I like real-world spaces rather than fantasy epics. But, it does look fun.

I'll probably pick it up just so I have something to play when I get frustrated by NIoh. I spent all weekend (and my lunch break today) trying to beat this as*hole and I haven't come remotely close.

Horizon does look right up my alley, but I can't bring myself to get it when Breath of the Wild is right around the corner....

Amazon got some stock of the retro NES in today and I didn't really need one since I've got a Raspberry Pi hookup with every console and game known to man, but hey, it's a great gift. An hour after I bought it Amazon bumped the price by $100. That's **** up, right?

I saw that as well. I run the RetroMania (emulator) build in Kodi through my Nvidia Shield so I couldn't justify the NES purchase. They are cool, though.

What systems can the raspberry pi emulate well? As in, at which generation does it start to get iffy?

That requirement that we need a 7th gen i7 sucks so hard since the GTX 1060-80 all have 10-bit HEVC decoding capabilities.

Wait for the AMD Ryzen CPUs, they will blow the doors off Intel apparently. Should be released in the coming weeks.
