Still trying to wrap my head around who on earth gives a **** about rankings anymore.

The rest of RS' last post is reasonable though. 18-20 wins, low (not sure what that means, below like 5 I'm guessing) seed. That's kind of what I expect though.

Having said that, to call that a dumpster fire is completely silly. You should've lived through the 70s, 80s & most of the 90s if you wanted to see dumpster fires.

Was hoping we could get a few games into the season before we started these existential debates concerning the status and future of the program. Certainly a 2-point loss in OT on neutral court to a solid Top 25 team, while missing one of our key players, is not going to change anyone's mind one way or another...

It's pretty hard to rationalize any scenario with the Badgers going three straight years without an NCAAT win, and that's a real possibility. I was looking at the team last night, and the main things that stood out were lack of athleticism, lack of depth, and lack of shot creators. They may shoot well enough to squeak out a .500 or slightly above BT season, but they aren't a threat to do anything.

I think this is the first class with all of Gards recruits isnt it? I'm not going to pretend like I watch Wisconsin anymore, but the excuses of "not being a recruiting hotbed" and "strict academic standards" don't really fly anymore. Wisconsin has had two of the top 5 recruits in the country in back to back years and gard struck out on one of them and will probably strike out on the other.

Pritzl is still around.

They’re never gonna get those recruits unless the NCAA pay for likeness thing opens them up to paying players. It’s not academics.

Interesting discussion. Gard is like 80-47 and 4-3 in the tourney. Thats fine and i am not sure what people expect out of our recruiting.

Its all luck if someone like Tyler Hero/Sam Dekker or a top Wisconsin player wants to play for UW. Its up to the kid, he has to be passionate about playing for UW.

Thats not new. And its early in his recruiting career. So im willing to wait to see better results when most of the recruits are his.

If i have some criticism, its Brad Davison and his bonehead plays. I dont think Gard benches him enough. Bo would have had him sit his butt down very quickly last night. I thought Davison was smarter than that. It can easily be argued he cost us the game.

Also..
I am NOT surprised King is not progressing. He wasnt aggressive last year and was very tentative.
Last night it looked like he tried to be more aggressive but couldnt do anything. He attempted 2 shots. I dont see him being any different throughout the year. Very frustrating.

Reuvers looks like he got more athletic and is moving alot better. I'm high on him.

Didnt watch either but end result is OK. 13 point win when favored by 19 (while also shooting 3-18 from deep). From scoreboard watching it appeared to get a little tighter at some points though.

They appear to be really struggling from three. No real snipers (maybe Pritzl?), but you'd think 5 capable shooters would lead to some better results. Hopefully we see some improvement soon.

What is BTN+ and why would anyone pay $15 per month for it?

I guess it makes sense if you’re a super fan of sports that aren’t regularly televised but yeah, way overpriced for what they provide.

If they continue the trend (made worse by the longer line) from the end of last year at sucking at 3s, it’s going to be a rough year.

Potter will help rebounding since they have had to play small it they’ll have to steal 2 of the early season games against the 4 or so remaining without him of teams with a pulse.

They also have zero bench, which will likely matter a lot more once BT season starts. Potter may help some but either way they are a shallow ass team.

This was my complaint about Gard’s roster management coming in.

We’ve hashed out the talent issues on here...the recruiting was subpar for a year or two which is hurting right now, but that is what it is. He doesn’t want to run someone like Trice off for a PG upgrade which I respect.

However, while I rarely even jump on with the complaints “you should get X grad transfer” because most grad transfers suck outside of the top 10, he should’ve grabbed a bench big this year as Potter insurance or a backup PG as Anderson insurance.

Once Potter returns, Anderson, Ford, Pritzl, Wahl is “fine” but one injury to a starter, and they’re boned again.

If the practise reports saying Potter was the team's best player were accurate, this team is going to be interesting... If Potter plays that first game, the Badgers are 2-0.

Reuvers certainly looks like he's made that Wisconsin big man junior jump. The Reuvers/Potter post combo should be a real weapon.

For depth, Bo use to play 5 guys 36/38 minutes and most of the posters here didn't have problem with that, so?!?

King I have hopes for to still be aggressive and be a solid/good starter that is a very good offensive player.

Ford, I like what I see and his ceiling is a nice forward off the bench with limitations, and that’s fine once Potter returns. Ford has added some actual offense off the dribble instead of just layups and 3s.

Side note: I thought the B10 would be deep but it is already not doing well in preseason on the mid/lower rungs. That’s bad for bubble chances if the Badgers don’t go like 12-8 or better in conference.

Signing day today. Should have one of our higher ranked classes ever
