People really out here devaluing elders because they’re 14 and mad the bucks can’t play games. I would laugh at the stupidity if it weren’t so sad.

No children have died. Miniscule numbers of healthy people 10-60 have died. If you're 80 with respiratory problems, yeah you may have a problem. But let's shut down the world. IDK, yell at me, whatever.

The problem isn't as much the virus' mortality rate, it's the length of care that is required for those who do survive - 2+ week hospital stays.

This virus, if we continue as we are as a nation, is going to overwhelm our hospital infrastructure and cause many more deaths as a result.

The goal, right now, needs to be to slow the spread of the virus so we don't overwhelm our hospitals. It's not inciting a panic, it's not being a worrywort. It's science and math.

And it didn't exist a few months ago. If there is one good thing about this situation it's that it's bringing awareness to the issue.

I watched it on Sunday, so it's probably partially my fault too.

A couple of you are now taking a break because you can't act like a rational person.

Keep the discussion civil. And if you can't do that go to the Current Affairs board. But stay off this board.

This is the problem that I see it. Say that with appropriate supportive care the fatality rate is 2% overall, and only elderly/sick patients are the one dying. What does that fatality rate become once the system is over run with patients and there is no access to appropriate supportive care for new cases? Do younger, healthier people start dying?

I had to travel today (if I wanted to get home, which I did). It felt gross. My hands are so **** chapped from washing them so much. I'm not a germaphobe personally, but just trying to be smart (and not judging those who are, especially the past several weeks and now).

I wonder if ESPN et al are legally obligated to keep paying billions for playoff games that will not happen.
Either way one of the two parties, ESPN or NBA, is ****.

It sounds like most of them are getting sent home for self-quarantine, and not being admitted in the first place.

Seriously, if media can back out of their TV contract, how are the teams gonna pay their salaries?

This last week is one of the worst weeks of my life. Devastating flu for the whole family, now starting round two. Looking like a bucket list item that I finally pulled the trigger on is being canceled, Lakers game/Giannis hurt, my personal choices in politics and now this. 2020 can suck every corona infested dick in the world.

It's all a numbers game. Most people will be sent home. But IF we hit even a 20 to 25% infection rate, hospitals will be overwhelmed immediately if 5% of those require admission. Plus, who is there to staff them?
