How much credit do you give to Doc Rivers for the combined greatness Paul Pierce, KG, and Ray Allen? Danny Ainge more responsible for that ring than Doc and its gotten him a decade+ of work
Well yeah no ****, but we have Giannis and Dame. He doesn’t need to be Norman Dale.
I wonder how Dame will handle it if Doc institutes a 4 pass rule before he shoots?

I think we should have hired Nick Nurse guys.

I think we all wanted Nurse, unfortunately, Giannis didn’t for whatever reason. Probably still salty over the 2019 playoffs. Seeing what Nurse is doing in Philly knowing that could be us makes me so sad.

This works if Doc comes in with ownership backing to hold Giannis accountable.

Giannis presumably pushed for the Bud firing with not even a delay amidst tragedy despite his whole “this isn’t a failure” schtick. He then prevented the hiring of Nick Nurse in lieu of Griffin (he wanted a former player which Atkinson isn’t).

All this was done under threat of demanding a trade.

But now Giannis signed the extension after the Bucks went all out to get Dame. Jettisoning Jrue, Bud and now Griffin definitely is being noticed by players and coaches even with appreciation for the cutthroat business nature of the league.

Totally different dynamic for bringing in a new coach now than the offseason.

Time for the Greek Freak to defer to Dame.

Are we sure Nurse didn't choose Philly over Milwaukee?

It was reported at the time Giannis chose Griffin. Immediately afterwards it was reported Nurse pulled out by the PR department of his agent.

The Bucks are an ideal team for Doc Rivers. He can execute numerous pick-and-roll plays with Dame and Giannis. Doc, being a players’ coach, can enhance the performance of his star players. The Bucks boast versatility at the 4-5 positions, reminiscent of his squads with the Clippers and Celtics. Moreover, the team has been involved in many close games this season, seemingly adapting to high-pressure situations. Replace Harden and Embiid with Dame and Giannis last season, Sixers might have won against the Celtics.

It's all speculation at this point. It'd be weird if Horst leaked to the media that Nurse wanted to coach the Bucks, but Giannis vetoed it preferring Griffin. Maybe he just told Horst he'd like a former player?

Seems like a major network blunder but who knows..

And when you bring up Docs 1 championship in Boston, you can’t be ignorant and forget about just how phenomenal Rajon Rondo was for that team. That was a big 4, not a big 3 and arguably 1 of the best rosters ever constructed in my humble opinion. They made 2 finals appearances in 6 seasons and won 1, but should've been a dynasty by all accounts.

I dispute this account.

Maybe Rondo comes in the coaching staff with Doc...

One thing I noticed while listening to Simmons' pod today is how in the pod intro he speaks like Doc is already hired. Says good luck to Doc in MIL, but then during the actual pod when Joe House spoke like Doc was a done deal Simmons quickly interjected with "IF he's the guy" and House made a joke saying "Sure, we'll go with that until it's made official" and BS laughed.

It does seem like CNN/TNT jumped the gun and someone from Doc's camp sent out a memo to play it down for PR reasons, probably because things consulting gig leaked out and Doc is worried it'll look like he poisoned the well to get the head coaching job.

Doc Rivers is underwhelming, and I would have preferred just keeping Bud, but here we are. Even if consensus is that Doc Rivers is just an "average" coach, that still moves us from 30th ranked coaching to 15th.

The most stupid possible reason if that's why, has to be more than that. Why would he want Griffin then? 100% a black mark against Giannis for this debacle

should have a poll doc vs bud to see how far we've really come, seems like the whole world knows we've seriously downgraded this organization in the last year

Milwaukee is in a low leverage situation. Everyone knows that Doc is the most favorable option. We arent hiring Atkinson for several reasons, he was floated as leverage but its weak.

Milwaukee understandably doesn't want to commit past this season, especially since they are already paying two coaches.

What a god damn mess.

But we get this done. We bring PJ back. We trade for a sg who can defend.

Yeah, i like that

I like your posts but dude comeon you actually think the holdup is because the bucks only wanna give him 1 year. What are you smoking. There isnt a shot in hell the bucks are only offering 1 yeat.He will sign a 3 year deal.Even windy today on nba radio said the same thing. Also mentioned doc likes the bucks aast coaches

I don’t love it, but at the end of the day we are going from a non-NBA coach to an average NBA coach. That is a huge improvement.

If Doc can make our defense top 10 (which I absolutely think he can) and gets our offense working more smoothly (which I think he will also do), we will absolutely be contenders.

To me, Doc is like a rich man’s Jason Kidd.

I wouldn't overthink the Nurse stuff, the guy wasn't liked by some of his players in Toronto and I assume Giannis trusts the opinion of at least one of those guys and didn't want to play for the dude.

I don't have an issue with Giannis vetoing a guy he didn't want to play for, he's earned that degree of power.

Sitting here today given our options and how important it is to win it all in 2024 Doc is by far the best person for this job.

Obviously option 2 is to let Joe ride it out the rest of the year and basically given up on 2024 and have the best job available this summer. That's another year on all 4 main players and we simply don't have that kind of time.
