I don't think we have a choice--do you?

Plus remember that our tank next year will consist of playing Giannis, #2 pick, #7 pick, Wolters, #31 pick, Henson, etc a ton of minutes. So we'll have a lot of fun watching that for a year.

The tank will be more enjoyable next season due to a variety of factors.

I don't even consider that a tank. Its like the subtle difference between a block and a goaltend. If it is still on the way up, it is a block. If it is on the way down, a goaltend. If we have two lotto picks and Giannis, we are (ever so subtley) on our way up. Not a tank.

I'd agree that I'd prioritize the players at 7 with Smart, Randle, Vonleh, Gordon and feel less good about the trade as we progressed down that list. That said, I think someone in picks 5/6 are going to get all giddy about either Gordon or Vonleh and nab him there.

Besides, we want to take another step backwards next season--right?

I saw somewhere that the Celtics are taking Gordon. You forgot Saric, though. 20 year old league MVP, does everything, sky high IQ.

Yeah I like Saric more than Randle or Vonleh. I'm still intrigued by the idea of a Parker/Warren/Hood line-up inspired by your Thanasis/Parker/Inglis thought.

Would make for a perfect draft night. I'd consider Stauskas too.

Agreed. I liked this from hypemaster Ford (who I'm buying what he's selling this year)

Matt (MA)

Julius Randle has the pedigree and tools to lead the NBA in scoring or rebounding in the future and he is the 7th best player in this draft? Is this draft really that good?

Chad Ford (1:47 PM)

Yes.

I'm surprised Chad didn't challenge the questioner's premise about Randle. He hasn't been a big fan. After all, if the premise is correct, and JRan has the potential to lead the league in scoring (an assertion even I would not make), #7 is the wrong place to draft him.

I am waiting to see Drew's newly tweaked Offense that sees Giannis buried in 1 Corner and Wiggins/Parker buried in the other as Knight and Sessions take shot after shot

The East is very bad. And Sanders - healthy engaged Sanders - plays very good D.

Plenty on here disagree on tanking next year. Personally I want to add Okafor or Turner that list you posted.

I thought Vonleh had definitively climbed over Randle. Maybe I was wrong on that.

Man if I can get Vonleh for Knight and Sanders... Wow.

I really think the Lakers are going to trade their pick. With Ballmer owning the Clipps I think there is a TON more pressure on them to get out of this funk or THEY run the risk of becoming LAs 2nd team. Getting a guy like Gordon just duplicates Jordan Hill and doesn't make any difference AT ALL for 4 years (ie until AFTER Kobe retires).

Hey Chad Ford - our new owners aren't stupid. If Hammond wants Parker just so we get a "safe" pick and he can produce right away that doesn't mean the new owners will give him the green light to pick him. In my opinion the new owners are going to make the final decision on who is picked at #2 from what I have heard. There is no chance they let a lame duck GM take a safe / win-now player just to make himself look good.

This pick could easily make or break the future of our franchise in Milwaukee. Hammond will not be the final decision maker on draft day - I would be shocked if this is the case here.

If we did get that #7 he'd probably be in the top 2 of guys I'd want at that pick, assuming he doesn't go 5 or 6.

White+Purple wrote:Vonleh projects strongly to be a C with his standing reach and build in my opinion. And Parker/Gordon/Giannis would have 96 minutes at the forward positions between them; though Sanders/Knight/Middleton/Ersan is a massive roster turnover.

He's 6'9", so that at least impairs him as a center on offense.

And anyways, I'm one of the lowest on him here. I have a lot of the same qualms on him as Wiggins, only on a higher level. He was even less productive his 1st year, and in spite of being on a mediocre team. Plus, he has the same aloofness and modest skill-set as Wiggins. He reminds me a lot of Joe Smith. He has potential, like Smith had, but it's just not very realistic potential. Realistically, he's a guy who you're just ok with because he rebounds pretty well, defends decently, and can hit an open jumper. But that's not making an impact. I think Sanders will make more of an impact with his defense alone, pair well with Parker, plus without the Lakers' trade we'd still have Knight as a chip, who could yield someone like Adreain Payne, who frankly I like better than Vonleh, and has the same reach, plus an inch of height, to better play primarily center (that was a Lockean sentence).

You laid out the logjam and roster turnover it would require to clear up some of it if we drafted Parker AND another pf at 7.

The only way I'm down with the Sanders' trade if we draft Embiid OR Smart is available. So we'd have to wait until the last minute to pull it off, and the Lakers would have to be OK with that relative to their alternatives. But in a fantasy scenario, with everything falling into place, I love it because it would mean a more offensive version of Sanders and another potential core player to bolster the offense and/or defense. It would change the outlook of this franchise dramatically in one night.
