Norm! Damn it, RIP George.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It sounds like the new MI can't outrun the problem that Dead Reckoning had, which is that a faceless AI is a really stupid villain.

The worst Avengers had this as well. It's just not a good concept unless you do it like Terminator.

Eh, the reason Age of Ultron sucked wasn't cuz of the villain. Spader was great in that. I honestly don't remember a single villain in any of the Mission Impossible movies. I watch them for the stunts/action sequences and I assumed everyone else does as well.

Maybe audiences are too savvy nowadays to sit through self indulgent and formulaic action movies? White knight narrative doesn’t mirror the dream.

The huge over the top stunts in MI don't really don't do much for me, though there are exceptions. The Dubai building climb ruled. So did the HALO drop. Also loved the bathroom fight and the original busting into Langley sequence.
But biking off a mountain, hanging from the side of a plane, mountain climbing, fighting on a train, the helicopter chase...eh.

It's a cosmic balance to Michael Bay's "Skibidi Toilet" movie.

I have the final 3 episodes to go but this show is such an incredible achievement man. It just feels like it's perfectly telling the kind of story Star Wars always wanted to tell and Cassian feels like he's quickly taking a place among the best Star Wars characters ever. Show literally had me tearing up in episode 9.blazza18 wrote:Have a hard time believing Disney will ever top Andor. Just a really well put together show from start to finish. Honestly my only knock is I thought the year long time jumps meant we missed out on being inside the world more and rushed certain things. But otherwise they did a great job setting up the story in Rogue One.

Ripley really was just stunningly beautiful. Andrew Scott rules also so that helped.ReasonablySober wrote:Oh, and a newer one would be Ripley. An absurdly beautiful show unlike anything you've seen.

Re: OT TV and Movies (Please use spoiler tags)
There's a local place here that's just a dive bar on the first floor with some movie themed cocktails and they have what's basically a living room upstairs with weird couches, church pews, stadium seating, etc. and they show movies up there once or twice a night. Usually cult classic types and each month has a theme but anyways, we went to see the original Final Destination there and man was it fun to have sort of a relaxed theater experience with that movie again. Going to see the new one this week and we're very excited!ReasonablySober wrote:
Ringer did good journalism on this one. Love this scene so much. We used to watch it in the roommate's room who had the best AV setup in college.

I remember Philip Seymour Hoffman being awesome as the villain and Jon Voight in the original but that's probably it.Ron Swanson wrote:BUCKnation wrote:ReasonablySober wrote:It sounds like the new MI can't outrun the problem that Dead Reckoning had, which is that a faceless AI is a really stupid villain.

Ron Swanson wrote:Poker Face is just entertaining enough and gets enough good actors for me to look past how terribly camp the entire premise of the show is. I thought the whole "the audience already knows who did it" thing was a fun switch-up in the first season, but I think it's already wearing thin as a story-telling device.
My wife is big into Elsbeth. Same premise (minus the mind reading)
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Anybody catch The Eternaut on Netflix? Argentinian post-apocalyptic series. 6 episodes and renewed for another season. I enjoyed it.
