It's pretty insulting that all these Kidd stories paint Giannis as being that stupid. It's not like he personally experienced how much better they got the second they hired a real NBA coach, or anything....

Ι mean half the basketball fans I know believe that if you're a point guard that's all you need to be a coach.
And are genuinely surprised that Kidd (who can barely put together a legible sentence) is having a hard time explaining things to a bunch of 20-somethings.
Therefore why wouldn't they believe that Giannis is stupid? He's not a point guard

What do the knicks even do next year? Do they pick up Portis, Gibson, and Ellington for $35m to fill out a roster, or do they completely tank? They might win 15 games next year.

I say picking up those options would actually help them tank vs spending that on good players. Honestly if they were managed correctly I wouldn't be too down on their future because they do have a decent cache of picks and space but I don't know how anyone could trust they will use it wisely.MartyConlonOnTheRun wrote:What do the knicks even do next year? They'd also have those expiring contracts to use in a trade if someone stomps their feet and demands one. Obviously everyone will say Giannis for that, but I'd guess we play out the year and go for the title. But think of the next level of guys down, Beals and the like. Or maybe they pull what would be a classic Knicks move and take on Chris Pauls contract if OKC isn't doing so well next year. Which, maybe isn't nearly as crazy as it looked a year ago, he's been perfectly good this year.

Unlikely, but if you have a Sterling situation where Dolan reluctantly sells the team for whatever reason, all of a sudden they are the KNICKS!!! Number 1 pick and 2 max guys then are the 2022 version of the Clippers.

It's the Knicks so we all know how this is gonna go. Dolan will dream that they actually have a shot of luring Giannis and/or the LA guys, then when reality sets in and they have nothing but empty cap space and prospects that they've ruined, they'll blow their load on Chris Paul and Blake Griffin in the last year of their contracts. Hell, they'll probably even bring back Melo and make Wade an assistant coach as a desperate move to lure Lebron and make the old man banana boat team a reality.

They've got squat outside of their own picks, but at least they didn't trade those. Everything in the late 20s and early 30s.

The Dallas pick next year is potentially interesting because the west is deep so all it takes is a couple injuries and that could be a decent pick in what looks like potentially a good class.emunney wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:I say picking up those options would actually help them tank vs spending that on good players. Hurts for them that they landed 3 in what looks like a 2 star draft (I don't hate Barrett but he's far from a sure thing) then this upcoming draft seems pretty damn weak at the top.
They should be looking to package those lower picks for young vets. Something I've changed my tune the past couple years is you can really only develop a finite amount of young players at once.

I'd expect we see more of this as the week goes on and teams test guys before the Orlando trip.

I'm half serious in asking how many guys in the league will be left to infect by the time we get going? Immunity would be an issue as the Nets, Jazz, etc. that tested positive in the first go-round would be in question here if they could be reinfected.

I assume they are doing anti-body tests as well to see what they are dealing with. I don't think a high-number of positive players now is necessarily a bad thing. All it says is players weren't safe in their interactions during the break (which actually gives credence players are safer in the Disney soft bubble). Doesn't say anything about the integrity of the bubble unless you are the type of person who thinks testing is bad

Fascinating to me that Woj is withholding individual names now after his Covid outing bonanza at the beginning of the outbreak. It’s almost like someone told him to knock it off...

Understanding that 20-somethings are 20 something, you're not going to be able to just explain everything to them. They're young players in that locker room who are still learning how to be explained to at a high level, understanding that they need to learn how to be explained to. Understanding that energy, that effort. I think your expectations may have been a little bit too high.

Are you insinuating they are muzzling him to prevent bad PR?
I think the obvious answer is he was reporting private health information and a lot of people thought he crossed a line. This isn't saying a guy that got drafted early. These are related to individuals health information and, though unlikely, depending on the root of his source, could be have HIPPA issues to deal with.

It's definitely PHI and unless the player is consenting, it's a HIPAA violation somewhere along the chain. Maybe someone told the teams to start guarding their players' privacy in accordance with the law. The NBPA would have an interest in that.

Ezekiel Elliot just called out the media for violating his HIPAA rights. It's 100% a violation unless he gave permission to release his name/info.

Just to be clear, HIPAA only applies to health care workers. It does not apply to journalists, or team staffers, or friends, or agents, or whoever else a guy may tell the result to.
There is a zero percent chance that anyone’s team doctor got on the horn with Woj to tell him so and so tested positive, so HIPAA isn’t really a consideration here.
