I don't get the fuss about him. He's a way undersized non shooting big that isn't even that good of a rim protector. Imo he belongs in the 20th at best.

He projects as a top notch defensive player. He has very quick feet and is able to play on the perimeter and in the paint. His reaction time is so damn quick and his athleticism is off the charts. Offensively he doesn’t have a good jumper, but he is a smart player who makes good passes and is very good around the hoop.

He’s a perfect fit for the Suns, where he can play alongside Ayton (a center who can shoot) and with a guard who can create looks for him (booker).

He doesn't project to protect the rim at a high rate at the nba level so he doesn't bring every defensive skill required from a power forward. He just doesn't have the skill set the NBA is asking from PFs and he's not skilled enough to make up for it. He's not going to be a bust but he's never going to live up to the draft range he's currently mocked at unless he learns how to make NBA 3s.

There ain't a single player mocked around our range I'd hate more than Gafford.

My preference remains stashing someone and keeping that roster spot open.

Obiesie is my guy by a pretty significant margin at the moment. That jumper looks projectable and he has an old man’s game. Almost like a lefty Brogdon with better ball handling. Would settle for Samanic or Sirvydis still.

Top 5 in our (mock) range if we use the pick on someone for next year.

Darius Bazley
Louis King
Kris Wilkes
Cam Johnson

Thats a definitely a dimension this team has sorely lacked.

I’d be shocked if we can get that via the draft though. Not sure we can get it through FAgency either...

Yeah, it's a matter of looking at what he can do - rather than simply focussing on what he can't do - and seeing if that fits the team - especially when the player put up probably the 2nd best stats in the nation. I think he can be very effective with any team that has a good center with 3 point range. I think the 11-15 range mentioned is realistic for him.

To me that is a problem. You draft a guy very high who can only fit on teams who's center can shoot. If you ever lose your 3 point shooting center without replacement the worth of your prospect will diminish. If you ever feel the need to trade that Clarke your pool of interested teams will be thin. I'm not particularly betting versus Clarke but I'm betting versus 4's that can't shoot or handle the ball. Clarke's FT% and 3PA did improve over his college career so there is that but to me it's much more probable that he remains a non shooter than that he becomes a shooter.

Edit:
Few things. First off, he's supposedly lost 20 pounds. Considering that his hips look a bit stiff to me. Hard to judge cause he didn't really have to evade anything but that is something to consider since defenders will try to step in front of him and he needs to be able to avoid charges.
Secondly, his jumper and footwork came a long way in this season considering where he started. That is especially encouraging since he's pretty much the youngest in his class and the speed at which he has made a weakness a strength is frightening. Especially his mechanics on his pull-up jumper are remarkable for someone his size/age. Wish we would have seen more of his handle and passing in Europe cause his natural developement will require him to handle the ball more and more.

Can someone sell me on Bazley? From the scouting report:

Shot selection is an issue. He pounds his dribble too much, ruining offensive flow. His tough shot-making ability is intriguing, but he loves the midrange a bit too much.

Slow, awkward shooting release and average touch on his jumper.

Doesn't really scream fit in Milwaukee. Don't really love the Rich Paul connection either.

He looks like he can create and attack on his own. Shot blocking ability. Very smooth around the hoop.

I would be surprised if he doesn't go top 5 in a redraft 10 years from now. Right now I don't think he's got enough momentum to break into the top 3 (even though personally I could easily make an argument above Morant) and the way the lottery fell the teams right after (Lakers, Suns) are looking at some more settled prospects. Afterwards it's a crapshoot. I feel the same way about him as I felt about JJJ last year - any team should do everything they can to trade up for him.
