I'm still on the Nick Nurse train. We need an out of box thinker. Lee seems way to soft

The listed poll candidates all feel like a huge crapshoot. The retreads all have their warts and are retreads for a reason.

The news guys are complete unknown quantities in terms of how they’d make the step up to coaching an NBA contender.

We’ll still be a good team whomever we choose. Having Giannis will guarantee that. It’s just a matter of how far we go (or are held back) under a new coach.

I think Nurse is still where I’m at too, and there’s no indication he’s even interested in the job. Nurse is the only candidate with any bona fide chops.

Then again, he seems to be a bit of a Thibs who grinds his guys down to the point of them revolting.

So of the candidates we've been confirmed that we're interviewing I'd rank them so far as

1. Chris Quinn- I consider Spo the best coach in the NBA so getting his top assistant would be a good risk, still risk involved as with all rookie head coaches but seems innovative and hopefully learned from Spo on how to make playoff adjustments

2- Kenny Atkinson- I don't believe he overachieved with the Nets outside of his 1 playoff season, but I don't think he was terrible there either and maybe he's learned something under Lue & Kerr

Big Drop off

3- Scott Brooks- it ended terribly in Washington but he had success in OKC and at the beginning of his Washington tenure

4- Adrian Griffin- as with all assistants it's hard to truly know their beliefs but being under Nurse is somewhat intriguing. No idea how good he is or isn't as a playoff guy

5- Kevin Young- Supposedly a creative offensive mind so hopefully he'd help our playoff offensive woes. But coaching under Doc & Monty doesn't inspire confidence as far as the playoffs go

6- Charles Lee- the Bud coaching tree has turned out some pretty darn good head coaches. I don't think you fire Bud for his top assistant but I do believe Lee has a bright future ahead

7- Monty Williams- An average to above average coach, could be a perfect fit for another team that isn't us. But he's a clear downgrade in nearly every facet of the game to Bud

8- James Borrego- a little intriguing how much his Charlotte teams improved year over year but his play in disasters really put a damper on him. And unlike Atkinson he hasn't gone on to coach or learn under other great coaches

Big drop off

9- Mark Jackson- lol no

But to be clear I'd rather have Bud than anyone on this list
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

None of the coaches in the poll interest me a bit even. If we choose any of them or any one that they have said they would interview, I would be most disappointed. I would prefer Bud over these.

D antoni is worth interviewing. Particularly interested in Brad Stevens.

Not gonna pretend to know what effect an assistant coach is gonna have if made a head coach here. Not even sure what a HC will do. I just know I don't want Jackson or Rivers.

Is there any reason why people are so big on Quinn other than he’s a Spoelstra disciple? Because so was Fizdale, and he was awful.

I’m sure Horst has interviewed a ton of important managers working at ups. How could this go wrong?

Bucks seem to want to interview too many random people for coach; terrible planning. Seems to me that they lost because of the players and just fired Bud because he was the easiest to blame and fire. This is all on Horst. He was desperate to get Crowder and not only did he fail badly, Crowder had the temerity to ask why he didn’t get more time to play. Thus shifting blame to Bud. Horst decided to fire Bud soon after. Many other bad choices by Horst. He seems to have had no coordination with the coaches. Why get Goran if there is no plan to play him? Ingles turned out to be so slow. Ibaka was terrible. We had no pg who could play make. We lost game 5 for instance because with about 3 minutes left and a big lead, Khris and Jrue both, not just one of them, played terribly. Not because of poor coaching did we lose. And Horst fires Bud as soon as possible after the season ended. Now the coach search process so far has been very disappointing. The search would naturally be tough because Bud was a v good coach and it is hard to find a better one.

Monty doesnt load manage
Monty saw good Giannis in finals. He can tell him "just play like you played against me in finals. We will practice that all regular season."

Its kind of like when Apolo started to train Rocky :)

Did anyone know Nurse before he became relevant? Maybe there's a diamond in the rough somewhere.

Pretty sure Nurse was known in Europe and the G-league before becoming Casseys assistant. Apparently the Raps win record shot up soon after he arrived.

Bud deserves his share of the blame along with Horst and the players. Bud is also the easiest to replace (assuming we get Nurse or similar level coach - Lue, maybe Monty). Yoou can’t count on two hands the number of mistakes and odd choices Bud made in the playoffs. Not calling TOS during opponents runs, not forcing Jrue off of Jimmy, not calling TOs with little time left, the list goes on. I loved Bud but it really was time to go.

Every assistant is a crap shoot. Regardless of who he coached under you really don't know until he's a HC. And every available former HC is a former HC for a reason.

There is no perfect candidate. Whoever is hired will get roasted on here by some and praised by others.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

So are Nurse and Lue out of contention? I don't see them on the poll... Or is that just b/c we haven't interviewed them?

Those in the poll have been confirmed to have been interviewed. Nurse and Lue have not. Maybe we interviewed Nurse under the radar but it seems unlikely nothing would have been leaked by now. Lue is under contract and would require permission (as well as compensation to the Clips if they decide to let him out of his contract).
