That was a problem for him last year at times, and if he wants to be great (which I do believe), he needs to assert himself and play with more energy more often.

Thoughts from those that watched the games?

He could have improvised on plays where he was meant to swing the ball but I don't think that would have gone down well. He was out of the play as a weak side spacer in the pick and roll by design. (Cool to note that opponents didn't want to sag much off him) Also all of the veterans thought they were a better option than giving Giannis the ball against an unhealthy Fernandez. So basically the coach is an idiot and the veterans on the team were either either dumb or insecure.

Mirotic stared him down afterwards. Giannis will hold that grudge. :D

If Greece win they are through to the Olympic qualifiers next offseason, if they lose they get to play one more game against the other loser for the right to join the other qualifiers.

So the scenarios are:
Greece win - through to qualifiers next season
Greece lose, then win - through to qualifiers next season
Greece lose, then lose - No Olympics

I think that's right unless there's some other backdoor qualifying I don't know about.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

Dear fellow Greeks. The guys here have no obligation to like our s-hitty NT, or not want Giannis back ASAP. Please go be obnoxious teenagers somewhere else, at the very least until the bitterness from the loss has faded.

People here have been very patient with you, I wonder how they do it.

I think they've been good sports, especially when we've been talking **** about Spanoulis. :D

The Greek NT reaches the end of an era. A core of veterans is running the show, Spanoulis being the ''star''. He was a good player, but now he got old and turned into an inefficient chucker. That specific clique also treated Giannis like a scrub basically, not having the balls or good sense to recognise that he is the best player of the team even at 20 years of age.

That's why I was against Giannis joining the NT this year and for a couple of years after this one, until these guys retire. He would get to work on his 3 ball, free throws, handles, defense, off ball movement, strength with the Bucks training stuff, in NBA caliber training facilities and then when he is a bona fide superstar at 23-24 years of age, be the undisputed leader of a younger NT.

Right now he played his heart out on a team that ignored him on offense, having not even a single play designed for him (really all those pick n rolls and Giannis couldnt be either the ball handler or the screener?)

If you want to point out something you don't like to someone just choose him and say it.
Don't generalize and don't put all Greeks in the same basket.
Everyone is responsible for what he is saying.

Can't argue with any of that.

I like it too. Spanoulis is the guy I love to hate and he even plays for my team Olympiakos. Anyway I blame more the coach than Spanoulis, it is clear that he underutilized Gianni. The worst thing is that having Olympics next year I expect most of the veterans will come back for a swan song. I look though in some positives about Giannis development, two years ago he was playing in the second Greek division he lacks experiences and he played about 10 more games playing in a very different environment than the typical nba regular season game, he played in a couple of do or die games, he got to shoot a few 3pointers in game situations, he got whistled in some travels (that sometimes are not whistled in nba), he got frustrated that was frozen out on offense, I expect him next time to be more vocal and assertive.

As a greek I'm calm now and positive for the future of my NT. I just want us to go back to our old style and build a defense first team with young talent around leader Giannis. Bring the Legendary Coach Giannakis back and we are set to go.

That comes from a Olympiakos and Spanoulis fan btw. Spanoulis is a living legend of euroball but he is perfect only for euroleague type of basketball and not eurobasket with the Dinosaur type of big men. He is just unstoppable when he pick n rolls with athletic undersized mobile centers in a team built especialy around him with perfect roll players to compliment him and work all together like a machine all year long. He has to continue to do just that in his late years and leave the NT behind for both his sake and NT's. After another summer with NT he will be exhausted by the crucial end of the season again for nothing...

As a Buck's fan I will keep the more mature, bigger and confident version of Giannis who in his good day will be the mvp of game no matter if 3 or 4 other players will score more points than him. He is also almost perfected his shooting form with immediate results to prove it. He had 38.1 % from the three point line guys! 9/21 shots with couple half court buzzers also counted!!
If coach Kidd let him shoot the three and not just the long two and Giannis manage to provide a respectable 35% this season his immense potential will reach the maximum.

I can understand a coach who doesn't hand the reigns of the NT to a rather unproven 20 year old, no matter how talented. Giannis will get his chances soon enough, and he will have earned it by then.
